this is crap, i cant remmeber the last time they screwed an election up so bad liek this one, usually military overseas gets there ballots early so it can all be figured out by now, they should just have e- voting on the internet

Some sort of full-proof internet voting would be excellent, IMO. But the overseas ballot wait is perfectly understandable. These votes will more than likely lean Bush, but ya never know. The problem I have is the Democrats trying to turn this into a game of "who has the best lawyers?" Yes, the Republicans are counter-sueing all over the place, but make no mistake about it, the Democrats put this into motion.

It's not just military, but all absentee ballots from around the nation and the world. All states are still counting these ballots since they don't have to arrive by election day, just postmarked by election day. These ballots could give Gore the election or actually give Bush the popular vote too. They may also have an impact in states like New Mexico, Iowa, and Wisconsin where Gore won by very slim margains.

One thing that I do not like, is Oregon's 100% vote by mail system. Voting is not a right, it's a privaledge (which can be taken away...i.e. felony convictions). If one is too lazy to actually get up and go to a polling place to make his voice heard, I don't believe he shown the interest necessary to make an INFORMED choice. Just my $.02

Voting is a Constitutional right it is not a privelage.

Yes you can have the right taken away along with yours civil liberties if you become a convicted felon.

I don't care how they vote as long as they vote without breaking the law.

Ahh, but you can get your civil liberties back, but you never get your right to vote back. Therein, in my opinion, lies the difference.

At this point I don't care who wins but I would like the right person to win, the one who earned the presidency legaly by being vote in by the people.
I think it makes no sence that the person who has less votes nation whide would win, however the electoral college is the final ruling and it must be respected.
In the future though I feel the electoral college should be disbanned, simply put it has out lived its purpose, Americans are more informed today and the electoral college is nolonger needed.

Ahh...the electoral college. It's not going anywhere because you need 2/3 of the states to ratify a constitutional amendment. Why would the "smaller" states want to diminish their power? We live in a republic, not a democracy to prevent mob rule. Tyranny by the majority in a democracy can be very dangerous is certain situations that can develop within a nation (i.e. Serbia electing Milosevic in the first place). Plus, we live in a nation of united states. Each one is vitally important to our nation. Without the electoral college, states with smaller populations will be ignored. The same principle is in place with our Senate. We are a truly unique entitity in this world and look where it has gotten us. Other democracies poo-poo our republican system and attempt to tout the superiority of their parlimentary system or whatever. Yet, who is the envy of the world? Who is leads the free world? We have a damn good system and it should remain intact and, thanks to the constitution, it will.

I understand you can get your right to vote back after 5 years under a felony conviction?

If not, then those people should not have to pay any income tax because the constitution states "no taxation without representation."

These felons have no representation, because they can't vote, hense no income tax.
