last night i was high and was wondering this.. why isn't wax flamable? why do candles only burn at the wick but do not ignite the way gasoline or alcohol would? my theory is that since wax is so dense, no oxygen can enter and cause it to combust. when it coats the wick, however, since it's thin and vertical, the molecules are far apart enough to allow oxygen to mix with it cause a combustion. is this true? does anybody know how they really work?    | ||

Dear God! A candle burns because of the slow realse of o2 and co2 from the wax. The wick burn slow because of a lack of exposed surface area. Didn't you guy take some kind of chemistry in JR. HIGH SCHOOL! ------------------ | ||

i'll be 25. wodin - that might be why the candle burns, but i guess what i was asking is why doesn't the whole damn thing ignite? if you hold a flame to a candle, it'll melt, but it wont light up - why? | ||
