Cnn,CNBC, NBC all are reporting this happening. There has been a phone bank set up to answer these calls. As of 1pm today there were over 5000 calls claiming the ballots were confusing. Out of these calls there were over 1000 people "claiming" they were denied a second ballot when they requested it. I'm only reporting to you what three big networks are reporting. If they're wrong then I'm wrong. I don't think that makes me full of shit. I will fish around their websites and see if I can find info on it you can read. If not you got to watch for yourself. ------------------

Just keep in mind these accusations of denial of ballot have to be thoroughly verified as true, if not it could just be a group of democrats realizing they have some incredible power right now and it's a great time to raise hell.

d1734, I would agree with you if all the complaints had come after the election. I agree that a huge number of people we see protesting right now are full of shit. But, during the election it was clear something was wrong. The local paper received a huge number of calls from people complaining about the ballots. I feel that people being denied a ballot is not the only issue. It seems that there was also a physical problem with the ballot names lining up in the correct spots. The arrows were not pointing to the right holes. That's a problem regardless of who you support. Plus, and I said this on another thread, the official in charge faxed a letter at 4pm local time that there were serious problems with the ballot. This was well before the polls had closed and results were known. ------------------

Do you recall that Tuesday evening CNN, CNBC, NBC, and others reported that "Gore wins Florida", oops no he didn't. "Bush wins Florida" another mistake. "Well it is just too close to call." ?????? I don't think I really care if they report that muscular green men from Mars landed in Flordia and voted. Although I would watch the footage, they might be buff.

Also, Florida state law says that on a ballot the name of the candidate must be on the left and the whole to punch for that candidate must be to the right of that name. So the ballots in that district will probably be declared illegal next week in court. Sweatpea(I'm tired of typing your name by the way ) I agree we can't believe everything we see reported by the news. But I actually watched people being interviewed claiming they were denied a second ballot which is also against state laws. I'm not saying they're being truthful I'm merely telling you what I've seen being said and reported. ------------------

This is actually what Florida law says..."Florida law specifies that, in the case of paper ballots, voters mark an X in the blank space to the right of the name of the candidate they want to vote for. For machine ballots, the law provides that "[t]he order in which the voting machine ballot is arranged shall as nearly as practicable conform to the requirements of the form of the paper ballot for that election." Although there are not many reported decisions on point, a 1974 Florida state appellate decision rejected a call for a new election by a losing candidate on the ground that a ballot layout was confusing. In particular, courts appear to be reluctant to entertain post-election challenges on a ground (such as ballot layout) that could have been asserted before the election." "Nearly as practible" does not mean that the hole MUST be to the right. It only must be to the right when an X is used to mark the candidate's name on a paper ballot, not a machine ballot. I just watched an elderly lady say she wasn't sure who she voted for. She didn't say she accidentally voted for the wrong candidate and wasn't given a new ballot. She may have voted for Gore, she doesn't know. It is a little too late to want to double check your vote now. This whole situation is only planting uncertainty in the mind of every Palm County voter's mind.

OK. Slab came through. I respect your answer bro. However, I will bet my car that people were not denied ballots. As for the ballots being illegal, a Democrat designed them, approved them and Dailey even uses the same ones in his county. So, if everyone let the ballots through, everyone was mailed a ballot, the newspaper explained the ballots...all we can do is come up with a better system next time. We cannot change the entire dynamics of the election by placing the future of our country in the hands of one or two districts. This is a life lesson to learn. I agree it is tough to swallow but the ramifications of a revote are huge. The precedent should NOT be set. It would be interesting to have a national recount by hand in search of irregularities. I bet Gore has more in his favor. Dead votes, double votes, unnaturalized citizen votes etc...We may concude our voting system is a joke! Oh well, let the law settle it and move on. Either guy is going to do a good job. |
