Twice has the electoral college gone against the will of the people and elected a US president with only a minority of votes. Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, and Benjamin Harrison in 1888. The electoral college was established by the constitution to prevent linking executive power directly to popular majority. The electoral college is not bound by its states popular vote, it only has to "pledge" to vote the majority of their individual state. Now, I have a feeling if that shit was to happen now there would be hell to pay! I think the constitution would surely be amended. ------------------     | ||

There was also a tie in the election between Jefferson and Burr(I think it was Burr, but its late and I'm not thinking clearly). anywas congress had to vote to decide who would be president. | ||

It is quite possible that the election today will come out as a popular vote for Bush and the electorial vote for Gore? What you say? This can't be! Fuckin dirty democrats, this should be abolished! This thinking goes directly against any of you who have been bitching about the complete return of state rights over federal authority. No other Government institution is more effective and truley reflects the collective will of the states in a republic sense. So if this one election doesn't turn out the way the Republican party want's I would be willing the first battle cries after Bush's camp would be from slithering, asshole slime like Trent Lott... ------------------ | ||
