Buddy of mine keeps a 300 gallon Salt tank. She had an eel one time. Not sure what kind it was though. She bought an octopus and it ate the eel along with everything else in the tank. She later got a trigger fish that was about the size of a large mans hand and the trigger when through the puss in about 30 seconds. An eel would be a cool pet, but let me tell you saltwater tanks are a bitch to take care of. You have to clean them alot and they are not very forgiving if you mess up the salinity of the water. Also most salt water fish dont get along. If they do not agree they will kill each other, My dad had a salt water tank when I was a kid. He went out and bought a fish (a parrot fish i think), it cost him forty bucks, as soon as he put it in the tank another fish came and killed it. He was pissed, the fish store guy would not give him his money back so he nailed it to the door of the pet store.

My friend has had the tank for about 10years now and she has if perfect. All she has is that pump to move water through. she has about 6 to 8inches of sand in the tank with the live darks struff growing out 2 inches up through the sand. Her is very easy to keep up now that it is all natural, but it took her years to balance out the ph and eveything. she says the key is the size of the tanke and the sand depth.

salt water is expensive to keep running and pretty high maintenance as opposed to fresh water. If you are wanting an eel for a pet, you can still go fresh water. Look up stuff about freshwater eels as pets on the web...just off hand some of the more impressive ones i've seen have been Fire Eels...there are ones called tiretrack eels and peacock eels, but they never seem to get over a few inches. Fire Eels get long and fat (har har). i'm sure their are others. If you looking into just awesome fish in general...look up rope fish (like an eel but wicked looking) and Clown Knife fish (bad ass predator, grows huge, eats huge) I havent kept a clown in years, SlickDadd throw in comments |
