The people who are going to hurt others with guns are not going to go through the trouble to get a permit they are going to either buy a gun off the black market or steal it.

As long as those thugs have guns I sure as hell am going to have mine.

When I get married I am going to get my wife some training too, so she will be able to protect herself

Why shouldn't they carry a concealed weapon if they want? Are they any different than the police who carry all kinds of weapons? Remember the Luby's cafeteria incident in Texas a few years ago? Because she was not allowed to carry her weapon she had to leave it in the car, subsequently her parents and several others were killed by a nut, because no one was trusted enough by the gov't to carry a weapon.

So you say outlaw weapons. Think about it. 20,000 plus laws on guns already out there. If a bad guy/girl wants one they will get it and use no matter the laws. That is why they are criminals.

You tell a law abiding citizen you can't do this or that and they listen. A criminal will not.

Your reason is a very shallow one. Why are you afraid of guns? Has a gun ever attacked you? Have you ever seen a gun get up off a table point itself at someone and shoot them?

Do you realize that a knife is every bit as deadly if not more so?

Weapons ownership is a constitutional right. The second amendment even includes the phrase "shall not be infringed". Having said that.....

You live on Long Island just like me. 15 minutes away in fact. So you know that even if weapons were made difficult to get, someone could take a train into the city with 500 dollars in their pocket and buy a gun. Forget the train - they could probably just drive to the Huntington Station area which is what, 10 minutes from your house?

This is how the criminal element purchases guns. "Gun control" only makes it harder to get a gun legally, but the illegal gun will always be available. No amount of legisklation will effect those who don't follow the law. So I am mystified by your desire to make legal guns harder to get, when only legal gun owners will suffer. Please explain.

You're killing me. I don't care if you're an atheist or not, and I don't care if you hate Bush. He's not my first choice either. I just hope you realize what you're getting into when you say thing like "FDR was the best President we ever had".

His solutions were not even effective at the time. Students of history know that his programs did not end the Depression, but that it was World War 2. Now, we are left with a system of entitlements that is crippling us. (Social Security costs us $400,000,000,000 a year. Four hundred billion).

You are certainly entitled to your political opinions, but it sounds as if you are getting them from either the media or a freshman-level philosophy course. I just want you to realize that a lot of what you are saying is logically groundless. I'm not attacking you. I'm attacking your beliefs. Please realize the difference.

Let's look at the murder rates in the country. Wahington D.C. for example, has one of the highest if not the highest per capita murder rate in the country and they have a total gun ban, no one who lives in D.C. is allowed to own or possess a gun. Yet, the murer rate by firearms is one of the highest in the nation. Go figure. California, extremely high murder rate and one of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, NewYork, has the toughest gun control measures of any state, and the murder rate and violent crime rate are enormous compared to the rest of society. To give you an idea of how effective the gun laws are at stopping the criminal from obtaining a gun, remember the guy who shot all those people on a subway in NewYork a few years ago? How did he get his gun? He drove to California (15 day waiting period) bought his gun drove back to NewYork and proceeded to waste some people who couldn't defend themselves.

Now the states with concealed carry, have some of the lowest crime rates/murder rates in the country. AZ, TX, FL to name a few. Why? because now the criminal no longer has open season on a defensless person.

I have a question for you. Suppose you are walking down the street at night, and an indivdual attacks you. He is going to rape you. Now, what do you do, in your utopian world, you have only your hands to fight back. So you are left with two choices, submit and take it and hope he don't kill you or fight back with your bare hands. How far would you get against someone say as big and as strong as me?

Now if you are armed, you have a chance to defend yourself and prevent the rape. But again you have two choices. fight or submit. But this time if you fight you have a chance.

His programs were stopgap measures to combat the Depression, which lacked any vision. Only WW2 ended it, and I'm not sure he would have been very eager to drop the bomb.
