Do me a favor. Take a look at yourself. Look at your eyes, nose, teeth etc. What do you see? Go outside, look above you, below you etc. What do you see? If you took a strand of hair , disected it properly, you would see endless amounts of fibers, compounds etc that make up that one single strand of hair, take a leaf and do the same thing, you would see chlorophyll and other ingredients that make up that worthless leaf, within the leaf and single strand of hair there are easily over billions of different aspects of matter that make up the leaf or strand of hair, all those things come together perfectly to make that leaf and strand of hair. Now look at your body again, what a work of art it is, billions and billions and billions of different thing go into making you what you are, they all come together perfectly. Science has proven that the closest and most accurate creation theory is the big bang. Lets sum the big bang up. Compounds, elements, gases etc blew up and here we are. Ok fine, but do you believe for one instant that shit just blew up and here we are, no silly, there was a hand that moved all of this into the order that it is today. The earth and anything that dwells on it, in it or whatever are so complex made up of so many intricate parts that play a perfect role. Nothing just blows up and forms what we have today. There is a hand, whether its the Hand of God or a force it is definitely the Creator of the present. You see God is way above you to the point where you dont even realize how small you are. If the entire population put each and everyones IQ together it wouldnt add up to one iota of what God is. No one can add or take away from God. Every move, action, word you ever spoke God gave you the choice of free will to do that. For me science only proves to me that there is a God, I love science, it helps me with my faith, I am not trying to convert anyone her or make someone change, I just wanted to point out the obvious truth that some mentally blind people on this board are denying themselves of, thats all. You people dwell in the obvious on a day to day basis that God exists and yet you use ridiculous reasons to justify your disbelief. Dont even look at this in a religious aspect, it doesnt have to be at all, I think you should realize certain aspects thats all. Evolution is true, we as humans evolved from the ocean to land from primates to humans. God chose a slow process to make His image(humans). Oh and to use George Carlin for religious references is sad. Carlin has the credibility of a cloned mountain goat. I agree that there is a god, who he is I don't know. All I know is I'm not him. I find it much easier for me to go about my everyday life without putting too much thought into what will happen to me when I'm gone and how I got here. When I ponder it too much, I get a little paranoid. Everyone has their beliefs and I have never or will never pass judgement on them for what they believe. If you believe that dancing around a campfire naked with a bone through your nose while drinking crocidile blood brings rain, then more power to you. For me, I have just never gotten that much in touch with my innermost thoughts. | ||

there is a God. What kind, I can not say, whether he demands organized worship or what, I can't say that either. Whether he evens noticed he is being worshipped, I still can't say. But he must be a loving entity. Who else would create such beauty. Even if you think that there is no God, the 10 commandments are still worth living by. | ||

Where did all the matter that exploded come from, It must have come about somehow. where is god? where does he live? could i have his address? i think the notion of a god somehow existing above the universe and creating and destroying everything as though he was playing with toys is ridiculous. i totally mean no disrespect, havoc, but you started this thread to get others opinions, i suppose, and that is mine. trust me, i love religion. i read a lot about it and talk to many people of different faiths and respect them all the same. i am a very spiritual person, however i don't believe god is sitting in some throne writing the script to our lives. special bill and wodin are right. god is in everything. and yes, you ARE god, thick dog, - we all are. god is the sum of all things, coming together and functioning harmoniously as a single consciousness. our dreams and thoughts are affecting the universe and our own evolution, the consciousness of a butterfly is affecting the universe - and we are all connected. einstein came up with a little formula that proves what humans have inherently know for thousands of years - that matter does not exist. matter is energy. without an observer perceiving that energy as matter, everything is in constant flux and EVERYTHING is interconnected. god does not exist as a separate entity outside of us. everything within this universe is a part of god. the only way to realize this is to have a religious experience yourself. no bible, no priest, no buddha, can explain to you what this is. you have to experience it first hand or you will be living in a story book. | ||

jakethemus.. you're right, that is something to think about. anybody who believes in the big bang must believe that something came out of nothing. alan watts made some good riddles about this. surely, before the initial singularity there must have been something, right? well, actually, something CAN come out of nothing. consciousness has the power to affect matter (since consciousness is energy and matter is energy). some people have the power to affect it in such a way that they can actually materialize things. a contemporary example of this is the mystic sai baba, who has been closely studied for years in all kinds of controlled scientific experiments and has been found to genuinely be able to materialize things. he can materialize ashes, food, jewelry, and anything he pleases. hokus pukus? i don't think so. | ||

The bible doesn't mention dinosaurs does it? No. Jesus and his followers didn't even know the damn things existed. Why not? Didn't his father create life. No.....how we're here, why we're here. We'll never know. If there is a God why did he wait billions of years before creating human life? Was he around during the dinosaur age? Did he make us evolve from apes? The bible is a great book of fiction and that's all. Read up about Scientology. Yes Jesus existed, is he or our father our creator? No. How old was Jesus when he died? His ages makes the point that his father mustve died just a little earlier than him- how long was life going on? How old was Jesus? Unless he was a billion years old it shows that his father didn't create life for his father wasn't even the first man here, life was already going on when jesues father died. And lest we forget the Virgin Mary. Was she really a virgin? Didn't she have a kid? I just don't get it how religious people are living so that when they die they're happy. The whole idea of there being a heaven makes no sense. It's sci-fi stuff. It's impossible for half of the stuff in the bible to be true. | ||

8 pack-actually the devil is your ego, no devil exists, In Genesis when the serpent is mentioned, it is symbolic for the ego , many muslims say the phrase" you must chop the head of the snake" meaning dont let your negative ego interfere with what is right. Smallboy- Jesus doesnt even need to be mentioned in this thread, this has nothing to do with any religion whatsoever, the New Testament has been redacted(edited), there are to many variations of it floating around, the fact you mentioned Mary being a virgin is irrelevant as well, a virgin in hebrew terms doesnt mean what you and mostly everyone else thinks it does. If you would like to look at Jesus as a fictional character, you cant deny he is the only perfect being ever written about, it would be wise to emulate Him to the best of your abilities. No. To give a more accurate quote from the bible, King James version, it says. "Let us make man in our own image" Now who is the us? According to the bible, god does not ask anyone for advise or opinions or permission to do something. so either he is scizophrenic or he is talking to someone else. This is the bases for the trinity, the father son and holy ghost. God (the father must have been talking to jesus (his son) and the holy spirit, three separate entities, yet the same entity. | ||

There is no God. The belief in God is nothing more than the result of natural selection. Earlier men who were genetically predisposed to believe in a higher purpose were more motivated and therefore more likely to survive. Their children were thus more likely to believe in the same fantasy, and more likely to live longer and have more children, etc... Our society is a complex organism. But, if all of the factors were known (though likely they will never ALL be known), we could express it mathematically. thus... ------------------ | ||

Actually religion and the belief in a god started from ancient people in explaining what they could not explain. Such as the sun, wind, stars, death, what is beyond death, the seasons. As man evolved, we slowly replaced each unexplainable with a valid explanation. All that is except for one. What happens to us after we die? Since no one has ever really died and come back to tell us what it was like, we do not know. Humans do not like the idea of not knowing what will happen after death, so the idea of a god and everlasting life in a paradise came about. It is in different forms but essentially all the same. Nirvana for some religions, heaven for others, etc. This is where religion and a belief in a god started. | ||

actually, we have all died many, many times. remembering our death or past lives is the hard part, but some can do it through intense meditation. the tibetan book of the dead is an incredible read, and the most believable account of what i think will happend when we die. | ||

Quantum mechanics mathmatically supports the possibility of the universe just spontaneously existing. Hawking has proposed the theory (with supporting mathmatics) that blackholes predict they can spawn baby universes inside them. There are many hypothesis at this point and no real conclusive evidence so please don't say an outside influence (ala god) is likely. btw, i can't take credit for that statement above. i coulda to make myself look smart, but i ain't like that | ||

d1734.. you're putting me on the spot here, man, because i don't have any of my books at work. i can look it up tonight and give the the specifics if you're really interested. there have actually been many, many instances where people can materialize things - some can make statues cry, some can materialize water and food within their own bodies and some can materialize random objects without having any control over it. sai baba is definitely the most prominent figure of this phenomenon. he is a mystic who lives (as far as i know, he's still alive) in india, he doesn't have a specific religion and accepts all religions. this guy can do some wild shit. for example, he can spend weeks in the himalayas in the snow without even wearing shoes. he can understand all languages and dialicts no matter how remote they are. he can heal people by just touching them and, of course, like i said, he can make stuff appear out of thin air. a scientist (i don't remember his name, i'll have to look it up) spent many years of his life closely observating sai baba to see if he was using some kind of magic trick to do this stuff -- he was ultimately convinced that this guy was for real. many magicians, photographers, and skeptics have also spent time with him but could not disprove the authenticity of his actions. for example - ashes are made up of tiny, very fragile flakes that break down into powder once they hit the ground. well, by closely watching the ashes that sai baba was materializing, they could see that it was not powder, but flakes, so it would have been impossible for him to have had it hidden up his sleeve or something. if this kind of stuff interests you, i recommend reading the book "the holographic universe" by michael talbot. it has hundreds of examples of the paranormal abilities of the human mind and they are all indexed and referenced. | ||

Chesty hit the nail right on the head.Over the millenia a wild profusion of mythological explantions of philosophical questions spread accross the world. Along w/ these greek myths rendered the idea of "One" God. Despite all this i still believe theres a God, my dilemma is i actually have friends who i consider brothers who are muslim,buddist and the other a Jahova whitness. Try explaining to them why I'm going to heaven and there not because i believe Jesus and God are "one". | ||

But a few years back he was filmed at a ceremony whereby he made it look as if he produced a DIAMOND NECKLACE, but one closer inspection of the time, you clearly see him putting his hand under a gift given to him (it was a small box) and pulling out the necklace.........Interesting hey. | ||
