Gore book author withdraws support 'I mistook your ambition for leadership. Your struggle with the truth is depressing'
A former FBI agent who specialized in Tennessee political corruption and wrote one of the earliest and most positive biographies of Vice President Al Gore has taken out ads in the Nashville Tennessean newspaper publicly withdrawing his support from Gore. Henderson "Hank" Hillin, a 26-year veteran of the FBI and a one-time sheriff of Davidson County, Tenn. (Nashville), took the extraordinary step because, as he said in his ads, "I no longer admire the VP, no longer trust his character or integrity. Al, I mistook your ambition for leadership. Your struggle with the truth is depressing." His 1988 biography, "Al Gore Jr.: Born to Lead," was a highly flattering account of Gore's life leading up to his aborted run for the presidency that year. Hillin is considered one of the straightest arrows of the "old" FBI, a man committed to law, honesty and ethics. His abrupt turnaround shocked some of his acquaintances, but Hillin talked to WorldNetDaily about why he ran the ads. "I just couldn't take it anymore," Hillin said. "There was just so much of it [Gore's exaggerations]." Gore's dishonesty, said Hillin, plus revelations of the vice president's fundraising activities among Chinese groups and his association with Soviet agent and American entrepreneur Armand Hammer, made Hillin's decision for him. "When Gore took all that money from the Chinese, that was the end of it. One of the last communist powers in the world and here was Gore cozying up to them," Hillin said. "When I wrote the biographies of Gore Jr., I wasn't aware of how closely connected he was with Armand Hammer. Hammer was definitely a Soviet agent," continued the former FBI agent. "I'm not campaigning for anyone. I just feel like he really let me down. I feel like Al has gotten under the influence of bad people." And in a blow straight to the heart of Gore's credibility gap, the ads say, "Sorry, Mr. VP, but Bill Bradley said it first and best: 'If we can't trust you as a candidate, then how can we trust you in the White House?'" The ads also take Gore to task for such moves as "flip-flopping on abortion" and his ill-considered tolerance of President Clinton's 'immorality' in the White House. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/bluesky_exnews/20001030_xex_gore_book_au.shtml ------------------ [This message has been edited by Weapon X (edited October 30, 2000).]

Bush is gonna win....not sure whether I'm happy or not...bush is good for somethings...but as a student about to go to college I think I'd get more oppurtunities from democratic 'rule'. Plus I dislike the Republicans being so intertwined with religion.....other than that I'd be a republican...

Frack, don't take this as a flame, but I am galled that anyone would say that teh Republicans are too intertwined with religion. The bastard traitor Lieberman has been screaming religion all over the damn place in an effort to save Gore's lying ass. Even the ADL has chastised him for using religion too much! As a Jew, I was pleased and proud that an Orthodox court excommunicated Joseph Lieberman for grossly distorting Judaism and misrepresenting it to the public. ------------------

Well, let's hope that more people wake up to his lies. Electing a president is more than just oooh, he promised this and that. He has to be honest and moral, I don't care if he goes to church or not. But if he can't be trusted privately how can he be trusted publicly? Do you know that if you have ever tried marijuana or steroids you cannot be an FBI agent. In most states and counties, if you have ever used steroids you are less likely to get hired as a cop than if you had used marijuana? Here president clinton has smoked pot, dodged the draft, ran away to another country, protested the war in Vietnam and then came back and got his sorry ass elected by this country. Which just goes to show that a majority of the people in this country are stupid. I can break all kinds of laws including rape and murder, and be president of the country, but god forbid if I have done steroids or smoked some pot, I am just not fit to catch criminals and such. What a hypocritic country we have.

Pass it over Chesty, I'll hit that. First, to head of any Bush criticism, he's not the best candidate in the world. he's not Abraham Licoln, or even Reagan. But he's not so full of shit that admirers are running for the hills. Frack: Gore elected Liebermann to head off the clinton/morality issue, and Liebermann has been doing it by using religion all over the place. Bush: he's not perfect. But you would have to suffer from a severe chemical imbalance or chromosomal deficiency to vote for Gore.
