OK, gays can't marry- that's one that comes to mind as a law that is strictly based on people's belief in God. What other laws fall into the "religious law" category? I was watching "Pet Semetary" before and when the father unburies his son I thought- that has to be illegal. But why? If my son dies, and I want to have him stuffed and mounted- yes its sick but it's for arguments sake- shouldn't I have the right to do it? Well, that's getting a little off track- but what other laws are basically nothing more than 'rules of Christ." Isn't there a seperation of church and state. Now doesn't that mean the governement should make it's own fucking law concerning this issue and not rely on God's word. I mean come on. This is the year 2000. Not everyone believes in God- why should his beliefs be our laws? Maybe thousands of years ago this was OK, but this has to change. As a straight guy- I don't see a problem with letting gays get married. Why should I be able to but they shouldn't? Now bash me and tell me I'm wrong, but biblical laws are trash. ------------------ <\==T-Shirts Now ON SALE!==/>

GETTING A TATTOO, OR PIERCING IS ILLEGAL IN SOME STATES, THEY SAY FOR HEALTH REASONS BUT THE BIBLE SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT MARKING YOUR BODY, SO I THINK THAT MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.

So are people with piercings going to hell? Or do they just have to go to confession?

The Bible does not say that anything is wrong with getting tattoos or piercings. In the old testament ear piercings were used by slaves to show loyalty to their owners. The only thing the Bible says about tattoos or piercings is implied. There is a verse that says, "Your body is a temple of the holy spirit." Anyways that is what a private christian highschool education has done for me. Down here in Alabama it is illegal to have

Mr. H, alot of the laws found in the bible were not handed down by God so much as adopted by the community at large and attributed to God. That's just my opinion. ------------------

Almost every state has some kind of restriction on availability of alcohol on Sundays. in NY you can't buy liquor on Sunday but beer is OK after 12. In GA you can't buy alcohol on Sundays at all. In SC they just made it legal in Charleston a few years ago because a radio station WAVE led a referendum and got the bill passed. In PA and NH you have to buy liquor at state liquor stores, and in PA you can only buy beer by the keg or the casd, and not on Sunday. In Louisiana, it's 24/7. That is LA's only redeeming quality. But yeah these laws need to go.

Sharps, tattoos and piercings are strictly forbidden by Leviticus. Markings and cuttings in the flesh are strioctly forbidden as pagan practices. But also remember that Jews (for whom the Torah is written) do not consider these laws binding upon non-Jews. Only Christians have adopted the Hebrew Scriptures, and called them the "Old Testament" and started deciding what applied and what did not. Jews have never tried to make Gentiles adhere to the mitzvot, the Laws. (P.S. - I got my 8 tattoos before I became at all religiously observant.) ------------------

Sharps said the Bible says the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. So lets make it a cool temple. One of iron and if some exterior details are wanted go for it. I'm gonna get a couple of tattoos as soon as I can. Probably when I'm 18. One on my shin (don't know what of) 1 on my chest (don't know what of) and 1 on my arm (dagger, like my grandfather had). ------------------

the church and state have been so intertwined since the beginning of even roman etc times not just american. its inevitable that there are going to be difficulties breaking away. there are always religious overtones even in our educational system. the ten commandments keep popping up etc. i know alot of people who are agnostic, atheist, or just dont burden themselves with religion. in the future there are bound to be more of these people making it to office, or just voting on propositions and it will turn the tables. but for now we have to endure alot of the "traditional" ideals and ways of thinking. our society is constantly being introduced to new ideas and ways of thinking. it takes time for these to become common knowledge and accepted(or at least tolerated). for those of us with more progressive views, it can be frustrating though in the meantime.
