MY CLOTHING COMPANY WOULD BE FOR SPORTS WEAR. NO, NOT SUITS... LIFTING GEAR, HOOPS SHIT, ETC... I WAS THINKING INTERNET BASED... AND YOU GUYS WITH YOUR GOT FINA STUFF ARE KILLING ME HERE... I WANTED TO HAVE SOME T-SHIRTS THAT SAY GOT GEAR? SO THEN, WHEN YOU WEAR EM TO THE GYM, YOU MAKE A NICE LITTLE CONNECTION WITHOUT SAYING A WORD. AS FOR A COURIER SERVICE... SIMPLE, BASICALLY IN STATE STUFF... BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT THIS ONE. UPS CAN CHARGE A LOAD OF CASH AND TAKE 3 OR 4 DAYS FOR FREIGHT. AND WONT DELIVER SHIT OVER 150... COMPANIES ALWAYS USE FREIGHT LINERS, BUT WHAT ABOUT A SMALL COURIER SERVICE THAT CAN DO SAME DAY OR NEXT DAY CHEAPER BETTER, AND FASTER???? AS FOR THE CLOTHES, GIVE ME A MONTH, I AM SURE I WILL HAVE SOME COOL SHIT IN THE WORKS. OH, I WILL HAVE SAYINGS THAT PUT "AND1" TO SHAME.

I would think the startup costs on a courier would be enormous. Be cool though. Plus you would need an airline connection and that too would be costly. What is wrong with suits? I cannot find a damn suit to fit anywhere. I need like a 12" downsize and I am sure that there are a zillion lifters and athletes with the same problem.

AS FOR THE COURIER, IT WOULD BE A LOCAL SERVICE, NO AIRLINE STUFF... JUST TENNESSEE... GOING TO AND FROM MEMPHIS, NASHVILLE, CHATT, AND KNOX... UP INTO KENTUCKY, AND OVER TO GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA. EXAMPLE- SOMEONE NEEDS AN ENGINE PART PICKED UP FROM MEMPHIS AND BROUGHT TO NASHVILLE... SAY UPS WILL TAKE 3 DAYS.. I COULD DO IT IN ONE, AT THE SAME RATE... JUST USING A PICK UP TRUCK. I DUNNO, OBVIOUSLY THIS IS IN THE THOUGHT PROCESS, AS I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT THIS.

I think it's a great idea madbomber! There can never be too many clothing lines for us "addicted to working out" types! ------------------

What you need to do is start a company that sells jeans/casual pants/slacks to lifters. At least 4 of the pants in my closet fit my waist perfectly and are uncomfortable when I sit down or walk because they either crush my legs or my balls... not fun. -Warik

madbomber31 I have owned delivery services big (in Chicago and San Diego) and small (in Seattle) for over 18 years. There is a lot to learn. If you have drivers, an ICC authority, and know where your client base will come from I can help you with the rest. You can't just start taking packages in your pickup truck. That's illegal. You have to get ICC authority and you need special insurance and a vehicle to do that.

OK what's the theme of your clothing going to be? How about this: "An object at rest cannot be stopped!"

WELL, THEME TO CLOTHES? ATHLETICS... FOOTBALL, BASEBALL, AND HOCKEY NOT SO MUCH... BUT BASKET BALL AND WEIGHT LIFTING/BODYBUILDING YES... HOOPS SHORTS ARE GONNA BE BETTER COLORS THEN NIKE, AND FIT BETTER TOO. THE LIFTING GEAR WILL HAVE SLOGANS... LIKE "SHUDDUP AND LIFT" OR SHUDDUP I AM BUSY... GOT GEAR? SHTI LIKE THAT... THE SHORTS ARE GOING TO FIT. NOT BE LOOSE IN THE WAIST AND TIGHT ON LEGS (I HATE THAT WITH ALL CLOTHES.)... JUST IDEAS RIGHT NOW.

Internet based distribution will probably fail. Amazon.com is the best example I can think of off the top of my head. They are starting to actually build stores because people like to walk in and talk to someone. However, on this board, there are many people who would like the ability to buy clothes that fit - and there may be something to that. If you made decent looking pants that fit me, and shirts that were wide enough in the shoulders, I would definitely buy it. And I would tell everyone I know about it. BUT: I would highly recommend you - if you are serious - look into opening a store first, and then use the Internet as your SECONDARY means of sales. Internet only businesses cost a lot to launch. One of the major reasons is that people who can do the tech-work for you (me, for example) are very expensive. If you're an Internet only retailer ("e-tailer") then you need to have a staff of them. You're looking at 150K a year if not more for a good tech guy. And you would need several. Still, I like the idea of clothes that fit. There is a lot of research to be done. Securing a facility (a store!) is crucial. Rent or own? Location? Don't be discouraged by the amount of work it would take to get it off the ground. Nothing worth doing comes easy. Just remember that the more questions you leave unanswered before you start off, the more questions you will have to answer down the road. Do it. Matt

May I make a few suggestions? If we're talking fitness-wear for women: please, Please, PLEASE - make shorts that do NOT cut too tightly into the thighs.....very uncomfortable and unnattractive. - make low-rise that is TRULY low-rise. There is nothing worse than putting on a pair of leggings or shorts that covers a very pretty navel. I'm 5'5" (I believe 5'3" to 5'5" is average height), unfortunately some-what shortwaisted and I have to end up rolling many of my pants down at the waist. - (This request will be a tad "out there", but what the hell.) When thinking fitness-wear for the average gym-hottie, think "sleazy yet functional", which means clothing that breathes, moves with your body, gives proper support but doesn't cover up too much of that hard-earned physique! I am constantly looking for clothing that meets these criteria. I don't mind paying a bit more if the clothing washes and wears well. But I'm so damned sick and tired of the same old t-back bra style tops and shorts or black leggings! What the fuck?! I do own a lot of Hotskins, but I find that the pants and shorts are generally too highwasted and the tops are not always functional or comfortable. If ya need a female model - I think I can scrounge one up for ya from somewhere! In any event - Good Luck Brotha! ------------------

WELL, HOW BOUT YOU COME OVER AND MODEL FOR ME ANYWAY, REGARDLESS... MATT, I HEAR YA ABOUT THE SHIRTS... I CANNOT STAND TRYING TO BUY A SPORT COAT OR A DRESS SHIRT... ONES THAT FIT IN THE SHOULDERS ARE MADE FOR FAT FUCKS IN THE WAIST... MY LEATHER IS FOR A FAT PERSON JUST CUZ THE SHOULDERS FIT... ITS TERRIBLE... BUT FOR THAT I DONT THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO DO DRESS TYPE CLOTHES... SHORTS SHIRTS HATS ETC.. WONT BE BAD, EVEN WARMUP STYLE PANTS... I DUNNO, LIKE I SAID... ITS AN IDEA... AS FOR SHOPS, IF I WERE TO OPEN MY OWN PLACE, IT WOULD BE A COFFEE SHOP, AS NASHVILLE HAS FEW THAT ARE WORTH THE STOP IN.

Whatever you want to do, do it. Open the business. Coffee shop? Not really my thing but they are certainly popular. If you don't - someone else will. I don't know what you're doing now - coaching or something I think you said, but based on the tone of many of your posts it may be time for a change. |
