I think the time has just about arrived for me to part with my current girlfriend. She seems to want a lot more than I do and we are at different points in our lives. She has a 2 year old kid and all of her friends are older and are married and I think that's what she wants. I'm nowhwere near that point. She also is trying to alienate me from my friends and wants me to spend all of my time with her and her friends. When we have a conflict of interests all she wants to do is argue with me. It's not that she is wrong and I am right but I think I have to move on. I have'nt broken things off with anyone in a while so I'm not quite sure of the gentlest way to break it to her. I'm sure she can sense it she has a lot of other issues going on in her life and I care about her feelings. Sorry for this pussy-ass post but I'm a little confused.    | ||

There really is no easy way. There is no way that is going to be painless to her. But I think the best route you can take is complete honesty with her. If you hem and haw without really telling her how you feel -- because you want to be nice -- you make things worse because the real problems are never addressed and she gets frustrated because she doesn't understand why. Make sure that you stress that this is a choice you're making because of your thought processes, that it's not a shortcoming on her part. Ask to speak with her alone, either she has a baby-sitter or after the child is down, and tell her your concerns the same way you have here. Be open to discussion and answer any questions she has without hostility or defensiveness. You've been with her two years and I assume that you've had a lot of good times with her. Don't end it badly. Just step up to the plate and tell her how you feel. You owe it to yourself and to her. Good luck. | ||

Now if you had said 4 years, I would understand the concern, but 4 months?? Dude just stop answering the phone, she will get the idea. I mean come on. How attached could you be after 4 months? Of course you want to be nice about it and sit her down and explain things to her, but then that is when she is going to nut up and go ballistic, if you take this approach, make sure you do it in a resturant or someplace public so she will look like the villian, not you. Or just stick with tradition, let her do something to make her mad, you go out with another girl and make sure she finds out, and then blame it on being her fault all along, that usually works. Now you are in the position I was in a few months ago. It doesn't feel good to be the bad guy does it? Now you know why it was so hard for me to FINALLY end things with the ex. Really TD, you have to let her know #1 that in a relationship the 2 of you always have to have some separate hobbies and friends, if not you will get sick of each other quite fast. Not to mention be unhappy! Don't argue with her about this subject just let her know that you have been thinking about this and that you feel the both of you would get along much better if you did separate things sometimes. And that no matter where the relationship goes you won't give up your friends. Remember lovers come and go, but family and friends will ALWAYS be there! She is most likely trying to turn you into the "husband" figure and you are no way ready for that in your life. If worst comes to worst basically let her know that if she would like to still go out now and then that would be fine, because it's not like you hate the girl, you just can't be what she is trying to make you be now. She can't change you, you have to want to change! You told me that before, remember? She seems to be the TYPICAL single mother: Just an opinion! So good luck with this and let us know what happens. |
