Thanks Mr. H, I have to type while lying on the floor, no table for pc yet.

This is basically a stellar nursery, I'll have to check to be sure exactly what nebula this is.

Wodin is pretty much right on, these gases are the remnants of old stellar material from billions of years ago that have slowly over time with the action of gravety condensed to where new stars could form.

Basically the old stars farted (nova, supernova, collapsed to white dwarf after being a red giant, and so forth)
