Does anyone know the recommended temperature range for a 1Ghz processor? My BIOS is telling me that my 1Ghz is running at about 37 C (98.5 F). That doesn't sound too cool to me, but maybe I'm wrong? If in fact my CPU is melting as we speak, can you recommend some good cooling accessories? Thanks,

Remove the mother board without unhooking any components and place it in a plexi glass container. Dumb about four of those industrial size bottles of veggy oil on top of it until it is completely submerged in oil. Cuts the heat in half.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion, WODIN, but I kind of had my heart set on keeping my PC cool *AND* keeping it functional at the same time; however, if I one day have the uncontrollable urge to destroy a $2,000 investment, I'll be sure to give that a try. In the mean time, anyone have a more computer-friendly answer? =) -Warik

That doesn't seem too hot. In order to cook a CPU, you need a temperature that will be too hot to touch. There are both software cooling solutions, and various heatsinks available. I personally use peltier coolers on my 3 machines at home. For more info, go here http://www.heatsink-guide.com/

Warik, I gotta get ALOT hotter than that to fry. Make sure you have proper air cicluation in the BOX. Does your BIos go into alarm if it get too hot?? IF gooten PENT II hot enough to fry spit any, they run like that for months on end with out power down and no probs. At the temp ypou said I wouldn't worry at all

98.5 aint nothing. If you can touch it it is not too hot. What you have to watch for is when you are doing intensive number crunching or serious graphics, then it will start to get hot, and hopefully not have thermal runaway, but I think they have pretty much elliminated that proble. Your fine.

Ok, then the cause of my computer slowdowns and random crashes has to be cause of Windows Millennium Edition. I've been getting Blue Screens of Death 2 or 3 times a day and a few "blah blah blah has performed an illegal operation" errors. I think I'll format and go back to Win98 this weekend. Thanks for the help, guys. -Warik

If it's overheating, you will know. The system will begin to operate strangely or lock up...then it will just die. 98.5 isn't shit...Wait till you play with a laptop with a PIII 700mhz

Warick do a search on double clocking cpu tiimes, I tried finding the site but didn't come across it again. But some guy did what I described above, posted pics and everything on the web. Hillarious stuff. Plus the only thing that blew the system was condensation from the AC unit he had rigged over the oil mix. |
