i'm from the midwest originally and we said soda there so it's stuck ever since. not that i drink soda anymore...now i say water or jack and coke. | ||

Here in the UK we always call drinks by their brand name, ie Coke, 7up, Tizer, Vimto, etc. Soda is a drink in it's own right here in UK (usually with Vodka and Lemon). ( I can't believe I'm answering this [This message has been edited by Julez (edited October 18, 2000).] | ||

In Ohio we say "pop" or use "Coke" generically. Asking for a "soda" is a tell-tale sign that someone is not a native. "Pop" does sound silly though and I'm always self-conscious of using that word when I'm in a different part of the country. Thankfully I don't drink pop anymore, so it isn't much of a problem since everyone knows what "water" is | ||

I'm with Somec. I live in Ohio and we say "pop" here. "Soda" sounds kinda lame to me but if you think about it why would you call it "pop", it doesnt sound like a drink. | ||

I'm from Michigan and everyone calls it Pop usually. The occasional soda or soda pop. I've never heard anyone use coke generically around here. | ||
