this is the way i understand it... the PLO (which has no place to call home ??) wants some of israel's land so they keep knocking of jews, bombing embassies, and causing general mayhem did the PLO get evicted when israel became a nation ?? wtf is going on ?    | ||

Dirk, I'm not a historian but I have some idea. The area was under Turkish control until 1918. Thereafter it was a British protectorate called Palestine, and there was a part of it known as Trans-Jordan. After World War 2, Jews declared the nation of Israel. The US was the first to recognize their sovereignty. Since then it has been non stop fighting. It will probably continue, as long as Muslim parents tell their children that if they kill a Jew while fighting for their independence, they will go straight to heaven as martyrs. This is why most of the stone throwers are about 14. That is old hatred there. Ridiculous to think that religion is the cause of all this bullshit. Matt | ||

The Arabs need a serious Israeli-made ass-whupping. That's all they seem to understand or want. Israel could not have made more concessions during this last go-round of the peace process. This last round of violence was started by the fact that Ariel Sharon, a Jew, visited a site that is holy to Jews, and the "Palestinians" did not like that. Is that reasonable? Bending over backwards for false peace will be the downfall of Israel. | ||

The whole Israeli/Jewish thing goes back thousands of years. According to the Tora, the Jewish people have the only written record of ownership of the Holy Land as it is often referred to. Now the Palestines might have a similar record of ownership, but the Jewish one is by far the oldest. Now after 6 1/2 million of my ancestors were slaughtered, all but wiped out from Poland among other places they once again were a people without a home, as so often happened according to God and the Tora. So, the British promised them Israel then backed out of the deal and the US stepped in and helped and reckognized Israel as a sovereign nation in 1947 I believe. Personally the Palestinians and similar people have continually mamed, tortured and murdered human beings in the name of Ala, especially if they were Jewish or American. I think personally after what these people have done they have no right to ask the US for help in getting back some real estate. It is a bad move for Clinton and the US to even talk with Arafat, it sends a clear signal to the PLO that if they cannot get their way, then it is the US's fault as well as the Israeli's and that opens us up to increased terrosist attacks at home and abroad. We should let the Israelis handle the problem they see fit and to the victor the spoils. If the entire PLO was to suddenly no longer exist I would not shed one blessed tear. | ||

Even if we stay out of it, we're not out of it. Israel has one of the best militaries in the world, because we equipped them. We give more foreign aid to Israel every year than every other country combined. If a war does result, Israel will destroy every country in the Middle East. Most of those military forces are poorly equipped, second rate outfits. (I've trained with Jordanians, Kuwaitis, Saudis and Egyptians. Poor soldiers all). Israel will demolish a coalition of Arab forces who have old Soviet gear compared to the top of the line stuff we give to Israel. And they won't stop at 100 hours like we did in Iraq. Israeli's hate Arabs. They will be the ones who bomb the dams along the Tigris and Euphrates and flood Baghdad. They will be the ones who turn Damascus into rubble. They will be the ones who turn Saudi Arabian deserts into a glass plate, and demolish Mecca in the process. The Arab countries are fucking with a small country in Israel, but it's probably the second best equipped military in the world. Matt | ||

HERE'S THE REAL DEAL! The Isrealis believed they are some special or chosen people or some shit like that and God has promised them some land called Israel. So they found this land that supposed to be promised to them, only there was one small problem, it was inhabited by palestinians and the land was called Palestine. So to make a long story short they killed most of the palestinians in the namd of God and got the US to back them and the Palestinians have been fighting every since against a well backed military. IT'S NOT THE PALESTINIANS FAULT THEY JUST WANT WHAT WAS RIGHTFULLY THEIRS. | ||

I was to young to remember the last time the Arabs thought they were going to take over Israel. But Ive read a few things on it and how with alot fewer forces Israel kicked the fuck out of the Arabs. Then the U.S. Took note on how the war was fought as Russian war stargiteys were used by the Arabs. Then Ive also read that after that Israel gave us some captured Russian equipment to study. All in all I dont think Israel dosent even need our help. ------------------ | ||

And when the Zionists first began a concerted effort to return to the land, they bought it back from the sparse population of Arab nomads who farmed there. | ||

Well, here's the main problem: Arabs (a huge majority of them, at least) do not believe that Jews have any claim to their ancient homeland. In fact, they have come up with false history that apparently proves the existence of nomadic Arabs in Israel 3,000 years ago. Yeah, whatever. Because of such hostility around them, the Israelis will fight and defend their right to EXIST as a nation, because the Jews out of all peoples deserve their own country. Who wants to learn some history? Oh, I do, I do!! Here it goes. Almost all of the Iberian peninsula was under the Arabs for 700 years: it took that long for the Spaniards to liberate their lands and kick their oppressors out. Sicily, Sardinia and Calabria were in Arab hands for some 200 years: during that period the Italians took their time to reorganize and then freed their lands from Islam. The same thing happened in Crete and Cyprus, where the native Greeks fought for centuries to keep the Arabs out. None of these peoples forgot about their homelands, and neither did the Jews. Unlike the Greeks or the Spanish, it took them two millenia to recover what's rightfully theirs. No one ever questions Spain's right to exist or whether Sicily should remain Italian; the same logic should be applied to the current situation in Israel. The Jews reclaimed what historically been theirs; they did not go to some Arab country as colonizers like the Brits and the French did in Egypt and Syria. | ||

What I find ironic is that the historical jews of Jesus Christ time were Arab...It's not often depicted as so, but thats what I believe...Can the jews today trace their roots back to them? I often wonder... Someone define the term Arab???Cause as I see it the jews started in the Middle east...wouldn't that make them Middle Eastern people or as I know Arab???Perhaps I'm wrong but it's something that these people will never agree with as long as Countries like ours continue to push our agenda to people who don't want it"Arabs". I think as long as oil is not jepordy we should let them fight it out or workout peace on their own...The only logical reason I can think of for the U.S. being involved because it is a strategic location if the need arises to attack some of these countries in the future once oil becomes a problem and we haven't developed anything practical to use instead. or the govt claims that some of them are Radical "Rogue" nations or whatever they want to call the BS | ||

TxCollegeguy, I find your definition of "Arab" rather strange, for it totally ignores the enormous diversity of peoples of the area now known as the Middle East. The Jews of Roman Palestine were not Arabs: they were a Semitic-speaking people just like the ancient Phoenicians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Akkadians and other related groups that were eventually Arabicised(that is they adopted the language of the conquering Arabs) after the spread of Islam. So, in other words, the Jews were not an Arab people, but the Jews, as well as other ethnicities, are related to Arabs linguistically. An Arab is someone who speaks Arabic and it is not a racial term: I've met blond, blue-eyed Arabs from Syria, and I also know a Sudanese Arab who's black (I think most Sudanese are black). And yes, the Jews of today trace their descent to the Jews of 2,000 years ago. What do you think the Jews of today are? In fact, there is a lot of scientific data out there that proves that most modern Jews come from the eastern Mediterranean and are related to the modern Lebanese and Syrians, some Anatolian Greeks and Armenians. I personally think that afte 2000 years of slavery in Egypt, persecution year after year since, the slaughter of 6 1/2 million brothers and sisters, that of all people on this planet they have earned the right to be bitter towards their enemies, they have earned the right to have and defend there own country as they see fit. More so than any black, spanish, white, indian, ... you get the point. They are not fighting for oil or money or power, they are fighting for there very existence! If they lose that fight they will become an exinct race on earth. Why is it that you pick on a Jew nothing is said, you pick on another race and my god the whole world comes to a standstill. | ||

Chesty, people can say whatever they want about Jews because everyone knows that we have all the money in the world, we run Hollywood and all television networks, we run the government, and we plan to take over the world and make everyone eat gefilte fish. Now there are so many sites claiming that the Eastern Eurpoean Jews (Ashkenazim) aren't really semitic at all, but are all Turks from the proselyted Kingdom of Khazaria. Thsi argument would be invalid no matter what, since all converts to Judaism become full Jews anyway (See the Book of Ruth.) It's crazy. If I were a part of a world-wide conspiracy, I'd be eating alot better than I do, and I'd most likely own a car. And I'd have found a source by now. It;s now Politically Correct to love an dadmire the Palestinian terrorists, becaus ethey are the underprivileged, the downtrodden, the "Freedon fighters" fighting against those evil rich Jews. | ||

Matt, that bugs the crap out of me! I have no idea, but I wish they'd wise up. Just yesterday, I was at Yom Kippur services in my Conservative Synagogue, and the Rabbi starts going on and on about Saint Joe Lieberman again. I got up and left. There is hope however. I agree Matt, I went to a school that was 52% Jewish. On a Jewish holiday they should have closed shop. All of thier parent were well to do business owners and yet voted against Republicians in the 80's. Never could get it. Why do you want to let the goverment run your life. You gotta to believe that you can do a better job for yourself. Shit look how screwed up the gov. is. Problem is that within a couple miles several very important religious buildings and items are located. Every religion could lay some claim to the land. So long as several religious groups are located in that area, it will be hell. To top it off they don't like each other. A retired friend of mine who was a spook most of his life tells me they have the best and tightest spy net work in the world. Hands down - not even a contest. They are totally devoted to the cause. |
