I will never understand why people poke their nose into other peoples sex lives. Gays should have the same right to marriage as heterosexual couples. I almost cant believe it is the year 2000 and the religous freaks in this country still choose to persecute anyone who different than themselves. Not only that, but the religous right was recently backed up by the US Supreme Court as the court found that the Boy Scouts dont have to allow openly gay men to become scoutmasters. This is not only blatant discrimination, but its also saying: "gay men must also be child molesters so we cannot let them near our children". Why do people think being gay means you are going to be a child molestor? I cant believe our country has come so far in the civil rights movement only to take two steps backward-    | ||

I'm not really into legislation of special rights for any particular group. I'm against affirmative action, gay rights, college admissions quotas (why can an eskimo with medicore grades have my spot?) and so on. Furthermore, I am WAY against the federal government passing any of this legislation. Where exactly is that specified in the Constitution? Matt | ||

It would be nice to have domestic partner benefits wholesale instead of a company by company basis, and it would be nice to have all relationships recognized by the government and business -- regardless of how those relationships are put together. I agree that more legistlation is not the answer here, probably more a change in attitude and perhaps a repeal of laws that are biased will be more effective. The govenment that governs least governs best. | ||

Jonny O, this is a non judgemantal question, just curious but did / or does your son deny to his friends that his parents exist, i heard this happens frequently when children grow up in this situation, as even as they are straight, because of their parents orientation, fellow peers will persecate as if they were gay.... | ||

roger never denied his parents because he has parents.. his mom (Gabby's sister) was unable to take care of him for financial reasons... and he has a deadbeat dad that has given him almost nothing. So me and Gab were then, and are now, the two "uncles", and his friends and teachers so us that way. Roger's closest friends (from about 14 on)knew about us and I don't think he was ever made fun of because of that. | ||

I believe in everyone being treated fair...My mind is open toward gay and lesbian marriages as I have not seen very much information and statistics to see how much it's wanted or not wanted... As far as the boyscouts are concerned The supreme court ruled against the the Gay troop leader because they are a Private Organization and Private organizations have and should have the right to determine who their members are...Just think if they weren't allowed to pick and choose who they let in should we all sue the Girl Scouts of America so boys can join them? my opinion on that, sure why not...The KKK doesn't like most people and the Boyscouts don't want gays in their organization...If this is something you don't like then boycott their organization and any others who act as they do... | ||

Matt, I thought you were far more libertarian than that! By not "allowing" gay marriage, the government is basically telling you who can and who you cannot marry. They have absolutly NO right to tell anyone who they can and cannot fall in love with. There are benefits, rights to inheritence, and other family (yes, family) issues at stake here. You say the constitution doesnt address this, but what about the pursuit of happiness and equal protection under law?? Do you not see this as a constitutional issue?? | ||

Well, there are benefits to being straight, but to say the government is in charge of your happiness due to legalities of marriage is reaching a bit, I am single and I am happy what is the difference? And I think there is nothing worse for a childs mind than to have his parents be two dudes, what about the innocent victims in that case, you know how cruel kids are. How do you explain why daddy is kissing Daddy? | ||

mp5 the fact that we have a well adjusted straight 18 year old that is on his own, with a fairly good job (bricklayer) proves that we didn't to any damage to his mind. How many of you were on your own at 18 with NO help from anyone? it would have been far worse for him to stay with a drug addict of a mother, or a father that doens't love him. we don't kiss in front of nieces and nephews, so that's never came up... in fact all our nieces and nephews love to spend the night at our house becaues we have the playstation2, we have 4 neat computers, we have the heated pool, we have the hot tub, and we give the best birthday presents of all the relatives. | ||

TX College Guy: My only disagreement is that if the Supreme Court allows the boy scouts (a private org.) to turn away members based on being gay, then other private organizations (golf courses, a private business) should be allowed to turn away others for being Jewish or male. Discrimination is based on race, gender, religeon, and sexual affiliation. So why does the Supreme Court get to pick and choose which characteristic gets to be discrimiated against and which one doesnt? We are forgetting one thing, the Boy Scouts the Insurance company's and so forth are all private organizations, they have the right to let into there company whom they see fit. If they do not like a particular person for whatever reason, they don't have to let him/her in. Whether or not being gay is a right, it is a matter of choice for people and if private citizens choose not to accept it we have to live with it. Quota's and shit have caused more problems in this country than if they had just left it alone. The right to be married is a falacy, we dictated to from an early age by the gov't that we should get married and procreate for the good of all. We are all foolish and like lambs to the slaughter. | ||
