Lets look at two hypothetic societies. Society A. values order over freedom and equality while Society B values freedom and equality over order. In society As criminal justice system, crime would be low and punishment swift and severe. At the same time people would have less freedom. This results in fear, and oppression. Equality is not a consideration since in America blacks commit the majority of crime prosecuted. Examples of societies which value order over all else would be the old Soviet Empire, China, North Korea, Iraq, and Iran. They countries have low crime and usually high public moral and decency. The expense is the lack of freedom provided to the average citizen who is deafly afraid of being targeted as a criminal. Society B on the other hand would have moderately high crime. Punishment would be dealt slowly to determine if the person accused is guilty. This society runs fair, but in times of crisis being slow is not an advantage. Being a victim of crime can become a reality. The system is not running efficient. Both A and B do not work solely. With the right combination of order, equality and freedom any governmental system can run effectively and morally. So the answer to the prisons rights issue is this: We as a nation, which cherishes these three values, must never allow ourselves to forget that these principles we hold so high are what makes American so special. If we as a nation overlook some issues for the sack of order, than slowly the balance of freedom and equality drift deranged. The result is governmental oppression, and the slow bleeding from a working democracy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
