I don't wear a belt. They seem to get in my way or something. If I try to wear one I'll spend half my time screwing with it and won't get my squats done. Of course I wear a belt with my jeans and trousers haha.

I squat 585 for 10 reps and can go over 700 pounds. But I don't use a belt except for the really heavy stuff - one or two reps - belts restrict my breathing and actually over time can weaken your back becasue you become dependent on them.

I dont use a belt when squatting- I think your back will get weaker if a belt is used all the time.
Also wearing a belt seems to give me problems with my stomach, cos it has to be resonably tight and when I tense as I squat my gut is squeezed and I get pain in it the next day. I say only use a belt for the occasional max attempt.

mr muscle don't worry how much you squat bro. go progressive if you want to up your'e lb or kg.

I don't wear a belt because I am cheap and I don't think I would like to wear one either and I also read that belts can restrict stress on back therefore leaving it weaker.

I'm with Matt...also by not wearing a belt, you force your abs to remain tight adding extra support to your lower back....Later

I only use it with my heaviest weights. If you were a belt all the time for squatting, your stabilizers never get any work in.

Ranger's right, not wearing a belt helps strengthen your abs. I never wear one, even when I do heavy sets.

I used my belt a long time ago.
But, the only time I use it now, is when my
lower back feels weak and I'm going heavy!

Matt...585 for 10 reps...man that is some nice squattin (especially if you are going ass to the floor)!! Like most of the others I don't think you need a belt except for HEAVY max lifts.
