just playing but i got a question: i love close grip bench i weigh 185 right now and was close gripping 245 the other day for reps, at the top of the pyramid...all the fucks in my gym say that is pretty damn good...is it?, i hate to say it but im one of the bigger boys there, so their opinion is as worthless as tits on a bull... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Hey that is good. I only weigh 122 lbs and can now do a deline press of 198. So I am doing around 1 2/3rds of my weight. I don't think I can do anymore than this. Keep up the good work. I know some guys at the gym can't do this and they are much bigger. I guess focus and shear will power is something they don't quite have yet. Yep, but shit, I dont care in the end. I dont have a big bench or anything either. I dont even use the straight bar! I use only dumbells... depending on how peppy I feel I'll incline the 130's or the 150's. But fuck, some of these guys half my size are benching 400+ pounds! AHMEN MONSTER! I Know I can pop up some weight when I really want to, but for a standard chest day workout. I'm sitting my bench @ 315 - 365 on the flat bench because... 1. It is never the first thing I do for chest, usually the third. 2. I want to get a good solid burn going so the heavire wieght causes alot of guys form, even mine to totally suck! 3. I really don't think that much of a big bench. My max right now is @ 485, I can rep out 460 if I push it...military! Do I get anythting out of it? I really don't think so because I never really feel a good burn when I go heavy... Just my thoughts ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Okay. I went a looking and found that I mis-spoke I flat-bench (what I call a tight military-bench 460 for reps). I overhead max @ 315 for reps! Sorry for the confusion. And bill it is possible, your triceps are doing most of the work on the close grip, you probably should add in some more dumbell fly work and wide grip bench. Are your pecs tight on the corners? meaning they are fairly sqaure at the corner without the rounging, on the sides. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||

Yes bill I remember. I just have trouble "updating" my vocabulary...kick me in the ass! He He.. As to your chest problem add in the wide grip on the flat bench and then add in the db flys with the extension completley out to the side and the arms wide like a T. This should be difficult at first but it will target the areas on your sides and add the thickness. Also a dips with your chin tucked in and your shoulders rolled up will place the focus on your chest / sides. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
