I am going to bed. Restart your computer hit F8 continuously until a menu comes up in dos then select 'last known good configuration' by scrolling through the choices. Then use the arrow keys and pick your op sys. Then hit enter. That will restore the registry to the last time it was saved which will be OK IF it was a program that installed a bad key or entry.
This is for win2000

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Often, going throught the registry only makes the problem worse, and changing one thing will affect 100 others - literally.

Re-install.

Matt,
You can fix your registry if you know how. It is not recommended for a novice. But it can be done by someone with superior intellect like say an Aerospace Engineer. Provided that the Aerospace Engineer has the patients to not screw with it before he gets a tech to lend a hand finding the entries with the regedit. <grin>

if you have a reletivly new computer (within 6mos) it might have come with a program called goback..it reverts your hard drive (all files) back to a certain point in time (you pick the date and time)..good luck
