HTML is the launguage that computers use to talk to each other on the internet. It makes the page come up with the pics, colors, text, text boxes etc. when your browser asks to see the page that is at a given web address. If you want to see what it looks like right click on this page in a white area and select "view source". That is what this page looks like to your computer. UBB is not really a language but rather it is a program that runs on a server (computer) and let you post messages, reply, etc. It has tags (commands) that you can type that will make the program do things that you want it to do, like make bold letters or italics or enter a pic or smiley.  The tags for UBB are similar to those found in HTML some are exactly the same. This is as simple of an explanation as I can give you.
