Here in Norway all males has to spend one year in the Army, seeing as we dont have a professional army. now, i myself was a medic, so i didnt see much action, well, if you count out all the blood and gore. but, our Telemark bataljon, wich is like out "special force" met up with some S.A.S and i belive U.S Marines on a Nato Exercise in the northern part of Norway, this was like 3 years ago. Now, froim what i got from HQ we kicked both the S.A.S butts and the marines. what im wondering is does the marines have any special winter training? the Telemark Bataljon speciality is wonter manouvering, how does the marines fare in such conditions? im just curious here, seeing as experinced marines got defeated by a gang of punks who was just there for one year...or maybe you dont send seasoned veterans on exercises like that? ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica "After this show i'll be fat and happy again.....If i make it to the show...." - Lee Priest "Lets put some weight on the bar.." - Shawn Ray "IT DOESN'T MATTER" - The Rock

We do get special training in winter combat and survival. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose, we may lose a battle, but not the war.

The US Marines are a complete land, sea and air military. Completely self contained and mobile. We can fight anywhere anytime and like I said we don't always win, but then when the enemy has no men left and no will to continue the fight, we have won. And besides, we weren't allowed t really kill you with real bombs, bullets and knives. So... I know you weren't dissin' the Marines. chesty

Mr Muscle. The Marine infantry units do train for cold weather in the Sierras in Northern California. Skiing, hiking in snow shoes building igloos and all that shit. But we practiced amphibious and helicopter assault MUCH more often. Except for Korea and some WW I most of the Marine Corps battles have been fought on beaches or in Tropical jungles and that is what we are more geared for. Lets face it most of your country men grew up on skis and its your backyard so some advantage is given to you. Plus, if it was a regular MEU against SAS and Norwegian SF in winter type shit.. you probably had much more specialized training in such areas. Had you guys been put against Force Recon or F.A.S.T units I know the outcome would have been a lot different. IG [This message has been edited by Iron God (edited September 29, 2000).]

Marines also have a Stealth-like snowmobile. You can't see it or hear it until it's running you over.

MrMuscle - I don't know what's happening now but about 15 years ago, as a Marine, I was involved in a joint training exercise in Norway with Norwegians and British. We were told for political reasons that we slacked off to let the Norwegians save face in their own country. I thought it was total bullshit to not enlighten an army of it's weaknesses. I can't see how we did anybody favors. Anyway, that was way before the politically correct Clinton administration so I can only imagine there are more politics infesting and contaminating the military now. So I wouldn't be suprised if the same thing happened this time. No disrespect intended. I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the Norwegian troops and pilots and they were highly motivated, disciplined and professional. Good people. BTW, Norway is a great country. Beautiful friendly people and unbelievable mountains, forests and fjords. It seems like a great place to like.I would love to visit again.

I hate to Brake this to you the Marines are a useless force and the country has no need for them...The only reason there not obsolete is becuse there tradition...I always laugh when they say Americas 911 HAHA..what conflict that has meant anything has the corp really particapated in nothing, But some little bullshit peace keeping missions, marines are in the pass if the airforce dosent bomb the shit out of them thn the Army goes in and takes them out..Sorry to inform you...One thing the Marines do have is pride but pride gets you nothing but your ass shoot off.........

I'll take that as a direct insult Gettinhard, let's see for one, the Marines have only retreated once and it is considered the most brilliant militarty exercise in the history of the world. I am referring to Inchon, Korea or better know as the frozen chosen. Second, we fought in both World Wars, and in WWI we saved France from defeat at Belleau Woods. In WWII we were the ones that liberated and won every major land battle in the south pacific and in Vietnam, the politicians ran the war so it is wonder anything at all was acomplished. Then, in Desert Shield and Storm the Marines were the very first ones to hit the ground and guess what your preciouss army when they got there had to borrow our food and ammo, cause theirs was weeks behind them. I tell you what, I hope you are joking because I will hunt down jokers like you and show you what the Marines is all about you puke civilian. Sgt Chesty,

Useless force? The United States is the only nation capable of a full scale amphibious invasion thanks to our Marines. One would want to avoid such an exercise if possible because it can be hugely expensive in the number of lives lost. However, a time will come when it is needed again and the U.S. Marine Corp will be the only group in the world capable of doing it. They are, without a doubt, the baddest "regular" force in existence. They have to be, to do the job they are trained to do. ------------------

Bro i am tired of correcting you the first people in saudi was 1/75th Ranger Batallion followed By 101st airborne...Then the Jar heads came to say we did something....I Have this same aurgument once a week with this jug head in my building..You guys are so brain washed you cant even think straight...Dont take it personal just the facts bro.....

Whenever the US conducts an invasion, it begins in one of two ways: airfield seizure or amphibious landing. Airfield seizure is best done by Army Rangers, (damn right!) and amphibious landings are the domain of the Marine Corps. They're damn good too, every one I've ever worked with. Matt

i dealt with alot of jar heads when i was in 1/75th and yes they are OK but the all think the same way..My father is a retired marine 1SG and here is my theory...Marines are so Brain washed that majority cant addapt to the real world they become drunks or convicts its sad but true...I am not saying all of them there are some good ones but tell me think of all the retired generals and senior NCO's they are never heard of again..cuase they are rehabing....I am a believer in all the branches but the Marines are in the past.....

What date did the army get there in Desert Shield, I will find out from my friend who was there, with the first Marine unit over there what date they were there. A book I have shows the Marines official date as being AUg 1990. It also states that the avab is 31 but that nearly 2/3 of recruits score 50 or higher. So, in this matter I am outa here, I have nothing against the Army except for the general that has affairs with his troops wives or the drill instructors raping recruits, or the sgtmaj's being convicted of sex crimes. gee I wonder. So, lets compare dates. Why the distinction between a senior and a hs graduate? chow. [This message has been edited by chesty (edited September 30, 2000).]

i dont know why the Army fucks use with the H.S senior market..They say it is becuase a senior with a score of less than 50 is more likely not to ship off becuase of Failure to Graduate...or other bullshit like that, my personal opinion is some Damn General in D.C thought it was a good idea..It really sucks becuase the other branches Kill us in the H.S market and that hurts in the long term..The other branches have caught on and they will straight up tell Kids you cant join the Army becuase of your scores, so we never get a chance to talk to them...The fucking squids will lie to there own mother... Ya that thing you said is true about the bar and marines and soldiers bitching back and forth,,,,I told you my dad is a retired Marine 1sg I am a SFC in the Army and we go at it all the time....

I went at it all the time in the reserve unit. The higher ups loved us former Marines and the troopies hated us, because we expected them to follow orders. Go figure. |
