dont waste your money on the MTX's go for the JL audio 12's. one 8 inch JL will sound better than both of the MTX's. Go with a blue thunder amp from MTX. best for the money i think. you might need to get good interior speakers as well..you need to hear the words to ya know

Slick you're not talking about stereo systems are ya? J/K.
I'm getting my brother to put a system in my car, since I don't know much bout cars and hes a Mech. Engineer. so its fun for him to do that stuff. The best part is if I tell him he doesn't have the ability to do something it makes him work that much faster and harder so he can prove me wrong. We both get what we want. He gets pride, I get a system. I'll ask him what hes gonna put in mine and post it for ya Justin.

justin, your best bet would be to go for 2 x 12" JL W6's, and Rockford Punch 500a2(2 ohm stable, perfect for the W6's) or you can get power accoustik's(980watt, power appache series.. these will knock those subs and the fact that their 30% cheaper than the fosgates is coo).. If you want killer high's go for MB Quartz(6 x 9 at rear, 5 1/4 front, 1" tweets, and 6" at rear door panel), killer price though =(..
the alternate route would be to go alphine, kenwood, pioneer(high end series)..

..and oh yah, try to get your hands on some phoenix gold wirings!

kei, time to go..

happy training

Justin, People will have alot of opinions of what you should get.
Things that you will need:
1)subwoofers (2):10"-"12"
(I agree JL is a great brand, I have always had Rockford Fosgate Punch woofers and you can step up to Pro Punch woofers-BUT if JL's are cheaper or on sale-get what suits your budget.
2)Amplifier: When you get multiple amps you will assuredly overshoot your budget-get a strong multichannel amp that is flexible (easy to bridge) and that has a BUILT IN ELECTRONIC CROSSOVER. Passive crossovers eat up your wattage.
3)tweeters woofers- I cant help you much here- but I do have on suggestion. Get the MB Quart combination midrange/tweeter sets. The tweeter mounts right on top of the mid right in the factory speaker spot.

well I haven't kept up with car stero much lately, but when I had my Cherokee I had a
Clarion headunit from 98 before they started making their headunits look like plastic crap....

good looking headunit,
had 2 pioneer comp 12,s and a pioneer 300watt amp...

Got the 2 12's, the box, and amp for $300 from a buddy from west Texas who's stepdad ordered them from a wholesale source since he had some business that sold their products...

The amp wasn't enough for the 12's but the sound quality was great and it would bump if I wanted it too, with a little tweaking with the head unit for a little more power to it.

I replaced the Jensen speakers that came from the factory with some clarion speakers I got on sale....when I bought the headunit....I got the headunit and speakers from Audio Designs in NW houston if anyone ever heard of them...They are out of business now, but they had a 95 or 96 Impala SS that won a National Contest in the summer of 98 ISACA I think it was in 2 divisions...

1000watt divison
and Pro division I think

it had a Modified Corvette LT1 under the hood and some great custom work inside. such a great looking car I miss seeing it cause it was pretty cool.

I would suggest looking for the best bang for the buck, you can make just about anything sound good, but the key is if you like what you hear and if it will last long or if not what kind of warranty are you going to have on the worksman ship if you don't do it yourself.....

decide if you want sound quality or lot's of bumping??Some can Argue about it either way but it would make a Huge difference on how much you want to pay. I for one think you can get good sound quality with 12's and underpower them and get a good sound to it, but thats just my opinion...I would also recomend against Fossgate but thats just a judgement call on my part...I once thought they made the best products but to many friends of mine have had to replace their speakers in less then 2 years...

Good luck and have fun...

Tx- It could be just one model of speaker. I have had fosgates since I ever got involved in car stero. I have had Rockford Punch 45's and 75's (what I have now) THat sonofabitch is at least 8years old and it was blown out once when i ran it at 1 OHM with a 12V fan.
It was repaired once and had never had a problem since.
The thing is-car stereo prices are alot lower than in the early 1990's. Bottom line if its good and at a good price-GET IT.

Good cheap system:

- 1 JL Audio 10" in bandpass box
- 1 Phoenix Gold 400w amp
- 1 MB Quart Component set (mids and tweets)
- Kenwood CD head unit
- Pheonix Gold wiring set

I had this system in a Mustang and it sounded awesome. It won't make you deaf or anything, but crystal clear sound on a budget.
