This one concerns the movie Blade Runner. What is your take on the movie and what it is showing us through imagery, and idea. Was Rachel a genetically engineered human being or was she an android? A biomechanical machine that was not alive, but a machine. The book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is the book the movie is based on. Essay answers only, I will give you my interpretation after some response has been generated. chesty

I saw that movie a while back, only because I had heard so much about it. It certainly portrays an image of true humanity, in a downward spiral of moral and physical decay. Rachel was a genetically enhanced human, and I believe she did have emotions (a soul) The version I saw was the one with the happy ending (the only one I though existed) and I heard people conplaining about that. Well, I like happy endings, and even though it did not really fit in to the rest of the movie, at least it wasnt a waste. I don't understand the significance of the Origami figures? do you? ------------------ "Don't eat me! eat Dredd! he works out!" - From Judge Dredd.

Rachel was definitely a Replicant. Ridley Scott used all kinds of hints to tell us that. Especially the "reflection on the cornea shot" which was only used for Replicants. Also, remember how many Replicants Bryant tells Deckard are missing, and do the math. (One of the best films of all time.)

Human, replicant, I don't care. I'd nail her in a heart beat...that one fine looking woman. If I could build my own woman, it would be a lot like Racheal with bigger tits! HA HA HA!!!! ------------------

Yes she was a replicant, but a replicant is a genetically engineered human, there were the scenes with the eyes being made, the speel in the tower about protein recombination and such. A mechanical or electromechanical being wouldn't need to worry about that, maybe a cyborg, but they were not that either. They were just genetically engineered humans that had a better capability than us and unfortunately they had a problem dealing with emotions when the developed them. The answer they found was they had no past experiences to base or compare these feelings to, so they overwhelmed them and turned them phsyco. Now in Rachels case, she was given memories, fake ones, but nonetheless memories. Two other things were done, she had no termination date and she was not told she was a replicant. This added to her ability to deal with emotions. The oragami figures show the progression of Dekker from an out of work, burnt out drunk into a man. Did anyone catch the signifigance of the Release of the dove and the nails in Rutger's hands? Professor

And of course the god references to Tyrell: "It's not an easy thing to meet your maker."

I didn't like it, it portrays a side of humanity I rather not think about... ------------------ "Don't eat me! eat Dredd! he works out!" - From Judge Dredd. |
