Ok buddy here is the debate, Most people in this country and elswhere agree that violence on tv and in games and movies has some impact on young children. Where I have the beef is that most parents will plop a child down in front of a tv or video game or movie and not watch it with them, to explain that is not real, to answer their questions when they arise, I call these parents absentee parants. Now is today's movies and tv shows all that much different from the past, not really, better effects, but the messages are the same. Let's look at cartoons. I don't see anybody really screaming and pitching a fit about Bugs Bunny or the Roadrunner or Sam or the Rooster or Tom and Jerry, why? because they are cartoons? Hell in Bugs Bunny there is always a scene where a gun is being put to the head of one of the characters, someone is always being shot and then magically unhurt. Something is not right there. Now what kind of a moral society do we have? Let's see, we have one that will edit out cuss words, some extra graphic scenes of violence all sex scenes... Wait a minute all sex scenes? Why? We're willing to let our society watch blood and mayhem, but not let them watch the most natural pleasing and enjoyable act around? No, wonder the public is filled with physco's. Why edit a love scene and not a viscious scene where someone is killed? The news does not help either, they continually show the worst in society, murders, beatings, robberies, etc. I don't know how much of this is a direct debate to your argument, but it is a start. chesty

i had no clue my small town had so much crime until i started working in the courthouse. kids and adults overfill our prisons for violence and petty crimes. times are a changin'. parents do use TV's as baby sitters and i think it affects them somehow..lack of parental supervision and or a complete two parent household does affect the childs behavior ------------------ knowledge = power

You have a great point! I can't honestly beleive that TV violence is the cause for behavior violence at all. I beleive it has to do with the surrounding of where you live. I was brought up just like everyone else watching Rambo at age 10, watcing WWF etc. I am not a violent person because I was brought up in a caring household. It all has to do with the attitude one has when they are growing up. Think about this scenario. A poor area in the world. Parents dont work, are always stoned or drunk. The children will be brought up in a negative enviroment. Its not due to TV, C'MON!

Good topic Chesty. I totally agree with you about the absurd hypocracy we have towards violence in the media vs. sexual exposure. I will expand on this later, got to go satisfy the wife. ------------------
