Frackal, it's not a question of voting for the man, it;s a question of voting for the philosophy. Gore's philosophy (all democrats, really) is that the governement should step in al the time.

examples: Education - give more money to the public schools when they are doing so shitty in many areas. Democrats are anti-voucher. Vouchers would put the decision back in the parents' hands.

Example 2: Gun control - Demopcrats want more gun laws, Bush does not. At least Bush is smart enough to realize that no matter how hard it is to legally get a gun, those who use them for crimes do not acuire them legally.

And so on. The Democrat ideology is oneof more governemnt, less people's freedoms. It's not the government's place to make decisions for us.
