I'm in law school and we were talking in class today about the fact that if Bush is elected he will screw our right to sue a company for their reckless, negligent torts. Bush enacted tort reform in Texas thus limiting a Texan's right to recover the full jury verdict rewarded. I guess shit-head's logic is the following: my good ol' boys have fat cat pockets, they give to my campain, so I'll look after them, I'll reduce their liability to consumers. What an injustice! Bush is violating separation of powers,,,the other 2 branches have no business getting involved in our justice system which has always allowed a person the full jury verdict. But, what do you expect from a guy who had shitty grades all through school, drank himself to near death until he was 40, and can't pronounce half of the english language. What a real tool............. [This message has been edited by RyanH (edited September 21, 2000).]

And Gore will promote the inanity of cities suing gun manufacturers because we all know that Americans are babies who can't take responsibility for their own decisions and lives. ------------------

I am also appalled at the legal system for it blatant attempt at writing law through the court system by sueing a company or individual until they are broke. One case recently that has pissed me off more than anything is the suit against the tobacco companies. While I don't smoke and don't advocate, the people who started the case blame the tobacco companies for there choice to start smoking. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that smoke in lungs is bad, nor did the companies twist their poor little arms to start. So, after these people ruined their health, their lives and families from smoking they still refuse to take responsibility for their actions, instead they blame it on someone else. chesty

I don't believe a jury verdict should ever be reduced. When the law has spoken, it has spoken; it shouldn't be tampered by high powered lobbyists seeking to look after the pocketbooks of their clients, corporations. As for Dirk's comment: My views have nothing to with age or being in law school. I don't even intend on practing trial law, but am about to begin practicing environmental law. And, of course, in the field of environmental law we know the injustice of reducing a jury's verdict (such as Bush proposes)......."A Civil Action" "Erin Brockovich"

A company should go broke when they fuck with people's lives. i.e. Firestone, Beatrice (in A Civil Action). Consumer's need alot more protection in our laws. Unfortunately, politicians are sold out to tobacco (who by the way knew nicotine was addictive), insurance companies, etc.

who gives a damn if they knew nicotine was addictive. hell even alcohol or even fast food can be addictive. so are you saying that fat ass people who eat mcdonalds should be able to sue them for being fat and unhealthy. i think not. frackal ------------------

The fact that people sue for anything and everything is wrong (example, a robber can sue u if he breaks into your house and your dog attacks him and hurt him) the less law suits the better, they are only holding our country (and businesses back)
