Seems like when I was in my mid-to late 20's I could go to an all-U-can eat and make three, four trips and still have room for desert! Now that I'm in my mid thirties and I never have the desire to go back for seconds. Is this age related?

Why does this happen? Stomach shrinkage?

I really don't know for sure, It could be stomach shrinkage, it could be a decrease in the met rate. Some schools say our met rates go down as we age, some say they don't that we just become less active. I really don't know. I do know that I can't wolf like I use to bro. I eat 4-5 times a day now and that keeps me even and I feel like I have to force that at times.

I think my met rate would be higher since I have substancially more muscle. I was thinking that either my stomach just got tired of all the abuse of youth, like most of our organs will eventually. I am eating healthier and twice as often compaired to my younger days, I'm hoping thats the reason. My mother says its age but I'm not sure if thats just an old wives tale or what.

I can relate to that......I really have a tough time bulking, and I use weightgainer and it helps, but usually by week five.....I'm so sick of food. So at forty now, I concur.

It might be age but I noticed after going to the 6 meals a day that I can't enjoy having large meals any more.
I just calculated my caloric intake for yesterday(typical day) at 1,400 calories. Its lower than ever but my weight seems to be going up thats age related for sure.

MD, I agree with you. My muscle mass overall has gone up by around 20 pounds in the past 18 months. So I would figure that my caloric burn rate to maintain would be higher, I don't know why but @ about 1500 - 1800 Calories a day I maintain and if I bump it up to a butt buldging (he-he) 2500 a day with a few MRPS then I start to gain a little. I don't know why. But when I was in my early 20's I would Eat this:

Breakfast : Dozen Eggs / Bacon / Juice
Lunch : Whole Chicken / Milk /
DInner: Two Steaks / Eggs / Juice / Milk
PLUS SUPPLEMENTAL PROTIEN DRINKS!!!

GOD I Miss College Training Tables

Today I eat
Breakfast : 1 egg/ bacon / toast / juice
Protein bar
Lunch : Protein Bar / Salad
Dinner : Steak 12 - 14 oz.

Granted I'm doing less now than then, but I'm doing 2 hours a day in the gym 1-weight 1 cardio. Light weights right now because I fucked up my shoulder some, but still I would think I'm still somewhat intense because I get that "I'm about to hurl feeling from close to overexersion all the time"

I'm perplexed!

Let me get this right. You are doing less now than you were then and you are exercising for two hours a day...now? Holy shit dude! Are you/have been a tri-athelete? I know overtraining can lead to loss of appetite and injuries. If we have been working out most of our adult lives our bodies may become more efficient at using nutrients, therefore holding off excessive hunger.

Good thread....
At 35, I have noticed I can't eat as much.
I don't know if it's metabolism or what. I just know I get full faster. I too would knock down liek 8 egg whites and like 9 oz. of roast beef before getting in the shower.
Now, no way.
I don't want to sound like a really old fart, but have you guys noticed less muscular soreness, and more joint soreness?
I know, this is depressing....

I've always been very active in my life. I played a lot of sports. I played football in college my days were usually up @ 6:00 go for a 2 - 3 mile run, classes, afternoon practice 2 hrs. or 1 hour with a wieght training split in there usually around 4 hours a day of various activities. Plus I wrestled for two years and then after I blew out my knee for the 3rd time I gave that up. I don't know, I just have always enjoyed working out and stuff.

After college I ran marathons for about 6 straight years and then on the last one I ran I just asked myself why I was freezing my ass off to do this. (Boston)! |:P| So I cut that out and went to the weights / aerobics thing.

I Also find that I have more joint pain than muscle pain too. That sucks.

Maybe your right about calorie efficiency?

MD may be right. since we've been active and working out for years, our bodies could be using calories/nutients more effectively.
As good a theory as any.
I too finished a half marathon, and thought
"I got a free bagel and banana for this?"
hehe Oh, and a neato t-shirt.
To hell with it. See you in the weight room...

35 is not old, but for vigorous exercise it might be. Some pain could be arthritis (sp?) setting in. Be super cautious with the rotator cuff and knees. My knees do just fine when I go heavy with weights, but I used to be a big time runner too; now when I run over 3 miles I limp around for at least a week. Being 50 pounds heavy than I was three years ago has something to do with that too.
