Anyone read about the Martin Luter King memorial...They are building one in Washington around all the other ones...What do you people think???I'm curious to see if they put it as the Martin Luther King Memorial or his Actual Name Michael King

I grew up thinking he must have been a pretty cool dude, till I started doing some research on him a few years back to see if I could find some of his published writtings...the few things I read or excerpts makes me wonder if he really deserves this or not...

Comments, questions of your own? anything at all?

I would prefer only that it were not taxpayer funded. But I want just about all my tax dollars back. It'sd teh principle, not the man. I wouldn't want a taxpayer funded monument to anyone.

I think for the most part, MLK was courageous, charismatic, and a leader. He took a stand for something and ultimately died for it.

I don't know that much about him in his personal life, but I admire his courage.

TxCG - if you have any links I could read more about him that would be cool.

The only thing that gets me is that there still isn't a WWII memorial.

yeah no problem Matt...I'm going home either this weekend or the next. I'll look for the paper I wrote on him in highschool...the NAACP used to have a few of his speeches and papers online, but I'm not sure if they do anymore.

If I can find the name of the Theology school he attended they had some of his work online at one time also.

I just wish his FBI file wasn't closed....it's not supposed to be open for a long time I believe, not to positive...Rumors about it have mentioned J Edgar Hoover finding some dirt on him...A few books written have talked about some of the scandals. Not to positive on whether or not I can prove or believe that, but his papers he wrote in college were plagerized often...his last Disertation for his PHD had 50 counts of plagerisim...I read what it said and then read next to the online text that it was supposed to be taken from and it was identical. Whether or not that was for real also is in question...I believe in Atlanta there is a museum of some sort that is supposed to have his papers he wrote there on hand...

"I don't care where you are in America, if your on Martin Luther Kang Blvd, THERES SOME VIOLENCE GOING DOWN!!"----chris rock.

as for the MLK memorial, scott said it best, wheres the WW2 memorial?? personally I think hundreds of thousands of lost lives should be put ahead of one, but hey we have to realize how the world works today, and who gets priveleges first.

There was a lot more pain, suffering, and sacrifice for those who fought in World War Two than any civil rights movement. WTF?? Where are the priorities?
