Any of you guys walk on a college team? In any of the divisions? I'm wondering how hard it would be to walk on say a D3 school?

You could probably make the team assuming you have a football background and you are big, but as for starting, you would have to prove yourself on the field.

Yeah I haven't played in 2 years but i've got some decent size 6'5 240. I don't care if i start or even play. I just miss playing too much and wouldn't mind even being a tackling dummy. This sounds kind of like a Rudy type story but fuck it, I'm 20 years old if I do'nt give it one more shot i'll always be asking myself what if...

I understand completely, I belive if I would of gone to a D3 school, I would of played baseball, I know several people who walked on as freshmen at a D3 school, they made the team but most of them quit after their sophmore year because they were not starting. But there are only 9 spots in Baseball, many more in Football. I'm 20 also and I've been saying what if for 2 years now, but I'm finally starting to let it go.

The worst thing you could say in your later life is, "only if I would've, maybe I could've." Your plenty big enough for D3, what school are you thinking of? what position?

I'm gonna try to walk on to the football team of whatever college I go to as a safety. You'll get overlooked but keep working your ass off and you'll move up the ladder into a starting position.

Okay guys, I am not bragging or anything. Some advice from a guy who has played college ball. Division I, WVU. Anyway, get your time in the 40 clocked for about 5 runs. This will give you a good idea as to which division you can play in, because usually it isn't a size issue for players between divsions, especially enterior linemen, its a speed issue.

If you are as you say, 6'5" 240 and can run lets say a flat 5.0 in the forty your looking @ division III. 4.8 - 4.6 Dvision II, 4.7 - 4.5 Division I. Because if you have the speed you're going to have the strength. Also I blew out my knee for the third time my sr. year and that was it for football. Hell I'm almost 40 and I still miss the game. Don't let this chance pass you by.

Do you have any idea of what you wanna major in? If so you should look into the best school ya can get into for the major you want and then take it from there.

GB, Nebraska, Southern Cal, UCLA, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, have a huge history of walkons. Just to name a few. If I were you I would go by geographic local..I went to WVU full boat, but if I could do it over again I would have walked on @ USC or UCLA. As with everything, money is the question and getting yourself setup where ever you go. Good luck bro. One other option you might explore is a year in JC, to pump, grow, juice up. Some of the best guys I played with did this, the name Darrel Tally ring a bell!

that's what i'm doing right now, i'm in community college i'm gonna major in Management/Information systems. I also wanna bulk up a little. I'm currently thinking about doing a sust + ?? cycle, I wanted to use deca but what if i get drug tested? Also do you think if do some Sust and bulk up it's gonna slow me down? if so I may stay away from the test? I plan on doing as much running, sprinting, jogging as my legs can handle. Do d3 schools really test for steroids? I heard it's like a lottery on who gets tested? Also I wanted to go to a school in masachuttes, any ideas?

D3 doesnt test for steroids at all. the only way they may test is if the school does it for their own personal good but for D3 the NCAA does not test. As far as walking on D3 football is not that competitive you should have no problem at all. So just pick the D3 school you want to go to and you'll be all set. Goodluck. Oh and for the record I know plenty of D1 linemen that do not run a 4.7-4.5 40.

Wanna try for Defensive End, or Tight end. do'nt think I have a frame for any other position that need real quick speed and movements. BTW. What exercises can I do to get my 40 down?

for anyone considering walking on I strongly discourage it. I play for a top 25 Div. 1-AA team. I am a all american pic this year I can tell you that college football sucks. It may surprise some of you but high school was great but college aint nothing but a job.

All you people that sit on your couches every weekend and see how great it is on television dont realize what the players go through every other day except saturday. All we do is have meetings and practice everyday except sunday for as much as much as five hours a day, not including lifting time. I am a lifting guru but when the coaches force you to lift and do their bullshit program where I know more about lifting than anyone in my school, it really tests your nerves.

remeber this when you do walk on you WILL be a hitting dummy. thats a given. the first teams will beat the shit out of you and give you no respect. now on a positive off the field we are all family, full scholarship or not.

I dont wanna sound like a bitchy ass complainer who has it better than most and doesnt realize it. I realize that football has been wonderful for my life. it has opened many doors for my future. All I am saying is that potential walk ons need to realize that college football is a job. and there is never an off-season. we practice over a hundred different times through out the year to just play 11 games! Like I said football is a job and if you are willing to work for free...more power to you.

I walked on at a top 5 div 1 school for one year and was basically a tackling dummy. I only played one year in high school but I was strong and very fast, I ran 100 meters. You have to have experience, great athleticsm will get you by in high school but in college, everyone is fast. It is a tough road, but I saw 2 walkons at my school go to the NFL, one in the 1st round.

FYI: Div I lineman dont weight JUST 240 pounds either. I played Middle line backer and the guys in front of me were fucking huge. 6-5 to 6-8 285 - 350 pounds. YOU DON'T want to try and take there spot @ 240 pounds! Get some size gb up to around 285 and then you could play gaurd or defensive line. Other than that you're going to be a tackle dummy if you don't have the speed.

AND ONE HUGE BIG MOTHER FUCKING BUMP FOR DOGBALLS!! I worked my ASS off two start my first 3 seasons and I got hurt in the 4th week of my SR. year and that is when I fully realized the JOB part of things! Great way to get laid though.....

Check out the numbers Andre Wadsworth, a former walk on defensive end put up before his senior season:
Ht-6'4
Wgt- 282
Bench- 485
40 7d dash- 4.62 sec
Vertical Leap- 40.5 inches
Power Clean- 330

There are many speed rushers playing defensive end in the 240-250 range. But they are all 4.5-4.6 guys.
