NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I get disgusted when I think about this subject because it is so unfair, yet nobody seems to care. For example, I go to the University of Texas, I have a 3.2 GPA and I plan on going to law school, but there is no way in hell I can get accepted in the UT law school with a 3.2, I need somewhere around a 3.7-4.0 where as, a black student can get accepted with a 3.2???? I had a teacher tell me that I could not go to UT law school because I was white!!!! ANSWER ME THIS QUESTION, IS THIS FAIR?? SHOULD I NOT BE ALLOWED IN BECAUSE I'M WHITE?? well you be the judge, but I think this is just a bit unconstitutional. Why does the color of my skin matter when I'm trying to fulfill my goals?? Where is the affirmative action in sports??? how is that different from affirmative action in the job market, if you want to diversify the job market by granting less qualified people high ranking positions, then it should go in sports. Lets say I am competing for a relief pitching position and I match up closely to my black teammate, except he is better than me in every way, he throws 5mph faster, he is more muscular, and he has a lower era. Should I get the position over him because of the color of my skin???? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT, OF COURSE NOT!!! YET THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY IN THE JOB MARKET, SCHOOL ACCEPTENCE, YADA YADA.

I have different reasons to drop it.All we're doing now is reminding our children what a fucked up society we've been in our past. AA was necessary and we've made great strides but it's time to let it go and let nature do the rest. It's time to drop it and let our children mold the world.  | ||

I see AA as an oxymoron. Trying to prevent racism, but thats actually what it is. It's saying instead of having 10 qualified employees, you can only have 8, and the other two spots you must fill with someone who might be inferior, just to meet a quota. Plus, if I were not of white decent, I'd have to say I think I would be offended. "I can't get a job on my own, so implement a law that will create one for me." BULLSHIT | ||

No, but it may be required, because some people still have racial issues. I believe the best person for the job should be taken. If I own a small business I would surely want the best person, because it has a direct effect on me. It may not in a large company. | ||

I got the same thing with university, i goto UF, and there's some kinda minority program over here, and minorities are allowed to register for classes and some other shit (scholarships, etc...) before me, just b/c they aren't white...so, i'm here, with a higher high school gpa, college gpa, sat scores, and i have to have a suck-ass schedule just b/c i'm white, i'm really not sure how this is fair and promotes racial harmony...! ~leaf~ | ||

I think AA has served it's purpose and needs to evolve some how to meet with the changing times.... My grandfather never used to it and he got a higher education and made more money vs my white Grandfather... Hence the reason why my mom has never registered as a native american and never took the handout... | ||

Great idea, and needed at one time. I do not think it is still needed as writen. As a white male, I feel cheated when jobs are given based on race. But we all know the USA is far from equal and something is needed to replace afermitave action, but something is still needed. As a manager I have hired people based on skill alone. I have seen a manager from another department tell me he would never hire a black person, because they are lazy. This is why something is needed. | ||

I have never understood it. They always want us to judge not by the color of skin but by "the content of character" or whatever. But they look at our white skin and expect us to do better then these...wonderful...hardworking...minorities.. and they let them off the hook for everything. And they always get to steal white women. Its so stupid. I mean I am not against black people or mexicans or whatever you want to call it. It just so happens that nearly all of them are lazy or have some sor of attitude like we owe them something. Get up off your butts...support yourselves...hook up with your own women...thank you. | ||

It is true that certain people are born into more advantageous situations then others, thus probably more educated and more likely to do well in school, job performance, etc. I have nothing wrong with legislators attempting to level the playing field, but I think that using race to delineate is a bad idea. MattTheSkywalker and I had a huge discussion about this one day when I was applying for scholarships online...All the scholarships I was applying for required a 3.5 or better, which doesn't really bother me since I have a 3.8, but as I scrolled down the screen, I took notice to something else... I got to the Latino American scholarhip which only required a 3.0. Now they are gonna try to tell me that just b/c that person is cuban, puerto rican, ect. that they don't have to work as hard as me?? WTF!?!?!? Thats the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard. AA should be done away with b/c people need to realize that if you want something bad enough, you can achieve it! I have seen person after person that have grown up with shit succeed. It goes back to the saying, "If theres a will, theres a way." The fact is that to reward someone b/c of their race, or nationality, is an absolute crock of shit, and IT IS racism at its best. ------------------  | ||

When AA first came into place the idea was to place minorities into positions, regardless of their qualifications. The theroy was that minorities would rise out of there situation with better pay, a since of pride, and a since of hope for the future. However, it was not those who were first impacted by AA, it was the children that were being targeted. It was a given there would be unqualified people in positions. The theroy was the children of the unqualified would see there parents excel and in turn they would excel, take the positions of their parents, but this time they would be qualified to hold the positions their parents held. "Affirmative Action" is bullshit. To Hell with diversity... IF YOU ARE NOT THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON FOR THE JOB *****YOU SHOULD NOT GET THE JOB!!!!!!!!!***** It's that simple. It's just as bad with education. I have friends who have tons of scholarships just because they are black/asian/etc... Do I have such scholarships? No, instead I had to bust my ass X 10 to get only two scholarships which leave me with only $1,000 of extra spending money per semester *AND* I'm required to take 15 credit hours worth of classes per semester (which is MORE than full-time). Yet they get at least 2 grand in their pocket per semester and don't even have to go full time... fuck diversity! -Warik | ||

The Irish were disciminated againsy in the job market, and so were Jews. They fought their way through it by proving to their detractors that they were smart and hard-working and worthy of respect. Every poor immigrant group went through this. They all overcame by working hard to send their kids through college, and making sure that their kids knew that they better take school seriously and work hard. They didn't need GPAs lowered, or graded on a curve. They didn't spend three generations on welfare. They didn't demand that this land of opportunity lower its standards to match theirs. I was the first person in my family to even attend college. I joined the Army, got some great training, discipline and experience, and have parlayed that into a career in e-commerce. I'm a long way from the Projects now, and my own son is in private school. | ||
