network administrator for a smallish company is pretty easy... you don't do anything unless something breaks.. in a larger company there is always something wrong.

Airline pilot is a good one. Higher seniority captains are making close to a quarter million now, and averaging 80 hours a month or less. Not to mention free travel. And flight attendants. That's the life for me. -txpilot

Any of you guys know anythign about Networking? Get yourself some cisco certifications - more advanced = more cash. If you can get Cisco to hire you, and have the advanced certifications (yes you will have to go to school for this) you can make upwards of $200K as well as acumulating literally millions in Cisco stock..... It is getting so outrageous that in some places, Cisco courses are being taught in high schools. They can't meet their own needs. It drives the salaries up. I know a consultant who made 20 MILLION DOLLARS last year. You'll work hard, but you'll get paid. And you can retire at 35. I'l prove it to you. Yes, it is difficult to learn. It is not easy material. But you don't need a degree (I have one and no one cares), you travel a lot, and you get paid more than almost anyone. Matt

You would have to charge $10,000/hr to make $20 million in one year. Not likely. Did make a lot off stock or something?

I just had my first class yesterday for cisco. I'm in the Cisco Networking Academy and going for the CCNA and then immdediately starting the CCNP classes. My instructor was saying it's around a $40,000 average salary when you first start out. I know the private consultants, specialists, and CCIE's make some nice money.

The classes for the Cisco Networking Academy for the CCNA are 1 year or 2 years. I'm in the accelerated one year program and it's 2 days a week, 4 hours a class, for 4 semesters. It cost me $850 for the first 2 semesters and about $250 for all the books but the class only requires 3 books that you can get for about $90. They have lots of home study material but it's hard to get the hands-on experience unless you have a home lab with at least 2 routers. That's gonna run in the thousands depending on how advanced you want it. I think some other programs offer those 4-5 days 8 hours a day classes where they cram it all in. Similar to the MCSE courses. I pretty much took the classes because I needed access to the equipment and wanted as much hands on experience that I can get. I bought a Sybex Virtual Lab cd-rom that simulates 3 routers and a switch. Pretty usefull software. It's only like $70 and great if you don't have access to a router on your own time. One or two years for CCNA certification? It's a one test certification, and its all basic shit. If you configure a router one time, you should be able to take and pass this exam.

Bros, The "Cisco thing" is: being certified - and knowledgeable - about networking using Cisco equipment. Most of you probably know who Cisco is. If you don't, hit the "back" button and read another thread. There are 2 levels of certification: CCNA which is Cisco Certified Network Associate, CCNP, which is c.C.N. Professional, and CCIE, which is the expert level of certification. The CCNA level is not really that difficult, it's really just an intro to router configuration, and it really lays the groundwork for an entrance into the field. CCNP is considerably more advanced, and takes some time and effort to learn. CCIE is an advanced certificationa nd you really have to know your shit. There is a written as well as a practical test. There are Cscio networking academies - they have excellent instructors, and there are other schools that have set up "Cisco labs" that teach you to do this. You can get the CCNA or CCNP from any school that has an agreement with Cisco, but you actually have to go to their lab to test for your CCIE. The money is really good. CCIE's can make 200K and up. CCNA is probably good for like 50K and it will get you the experience you need to test for advanced certifications. Suersizeme: Nice screen name. It is not uncommon for consultants to charge $750 - $1000 an hour. But part of that fee goes to the company, and part to the consultant. That's how that guy was able to make 20 Million last year. Others: Check out Cisco.com and learn more. Expect to spend a few thousand for the courses and devote a few months. Matt
