Listen, bros. How do you guys measure your waist? What does it mean when you say you have a 32" waist?

Here's why I ask: I notice that a new pair of 32" jeans fits me well (a little tight in the thighs, maybe, but the waist is okay), though dress slacks seem to need a 33" or even 34" waist, and a measuring tape around where my belt would go is 34" easy.

On the other hand, I have a pair of Nautica jeans that are 30" that fit just fine.

So, what do I say my waist size is? How would you report yours?

Seems like a stupid question, I know, but it's just one of those little things that nag me sometimes.

Go about 2 or so centemeters above your navel, then wrap the tape measure around your trunk to get true waste size - that's what I was told anyway. For me it's the opposite, I always have smaller dress pants than jeans because the jeans end up fitting lower than the pants.

I think this is a good question. I wear a 34" jean or dress pant, but when I use a measure it says 36"

I think this is a question for Cleaner

And just so you know all manufacturers make their sizes differently, so thats why its different from one pair of pants to another. I have 24 inch pants and I have 27's...it all depends..

Okay, Rotten wears 34" pants but measures 36" with a tape. Blackhaus wears both 24" and 27" pants.

We're begging the question, here. What do you say when someone asks how big your waist is, or, to put it differently, how do you compare yourself to someone who claims to have a 34" waist, or a 27" one?

Which is the authoritative number for you, Rotten: 34 or 36? What about you, Blackhaus? Sorry to obsess about this, but while other guys get their panties all in a twist about how big their arms are, I want to keep on top of my waist size, and have a good idea of how I compare to other guys who talk about their 32" waist. Right now, I don't know if I'm slimmer, chunkier, or just the same!

Know what I mean?

The manufacturers make the sizes different for a reason... Suppose to pairs fit perfectly, different brands same price allure. But one is a 32 and the other 34. Which tag are you gunna wanna show off?

I agree, tape is king. Pants can differ from manufacturer and from different cuts. I have the same pair of Tommy slacks in different colors, one is 34, one is 33. Too many variables. Tape is king. I measure at the belly button

You guys make me feel great, I measure a 32" waist with the tape but wear a 34" or 33" jeans and I always thought I was a fat ass, been trying to get down to about 28".
And of course I tell everone that I have a 32" waist regardless to what size jeans I have on (unless I'm wearing Levis which has the size imprinted on it).
