How many of you have one? legally of course. how much did you pay, what kind? What are you opinions on a single woman having one to feel safe? The state i live in is one of the easiest to get one.

I'm one of the few down here in South FLorida who ain't packin' heat. Not a bad idea for a single girl living alone, provided you learn how to use it properly.

I dont own one, but that is only because it would be another charge if i get busted again. The day i stop growing i will be getting one. I would recommend one of the smaller model glocks. They are light weight, easy to shoot, and they are only around $400-$600. you would have to cock it first, so a revolver would be a better choice for quick fire. or just buy a pit bull, best damn dogs on the earth.

I own 2 guns. I have a Smith and Wesson 357 which was around $400.00 and I own a small Colt 25 caliber pistol which I think was around $300.00. I mostly carry the 25 when needed because it is easier to conseal. If you carry, please get a permit. The state I live in is easy to get one and is worth it. ------------------

Posted back in the spring - 1 ar-15 28"wilson match barrel handguns well I lied that make 34 , but I might have missed one or two. I am suprized I can remember it that well. I am always after another gun. Once you get that one, you want the one you don't have. Funny ting is that about 8 or 10 of them have never been shot. Knife collection is very impressive, takes hours to view all of it. http://www.elitefitness.com/ubb/Archives/Forum10/05-2000/000212.html [This message has been edited by Cleaner (edited August 16, 2000).]

Thanks guys, i'm going to get one today. I know the owner of a gun shop. I don't have the money now to get the concealed weapon permit. so for now i'll just keep it at my residence. Later i will get a permit and carry that biatch everywhere. The owner of the gun shop is going to teach me personally how to use it. I will let you guys know what i end up getting. He's gonna cut me a deal i think. i'll let you guys know and you can tell me if i got jacked or not.

I have 2 guns that I carry with me on a daily basis, they are 20 inches cold and pumped they somewhat resemble a petite womens upper leg with 0% fat, I think I am going to buy them some shoes tomorrow. ------------------

OHHHHH slow down. First buy a revolver - why you say? Get a .357 and when you get to the range you can shoot .38's. Saves you money and your ears. Two a .357 will stop superman in his tracks. Go to your local gun stores and put it on lay away and and get a nice gun. You are going to possibly trust your life with this thing so the last thing you need is junk. 300 to 400 dollars will buy you a nice smith or ruger / so on and so on - but a name its worth it!!!!! Ok you got the gun your making payments life is good - your warming up to the whole deal - ok ok ok, go to a gun shop that offers free courses for wemon. They supply the ammo and the guns and you will shoot alot with personal instruction. Should only be wemon there except for instrutors and you can ask any and all questions and get it together. When you done you'll have your shit together and will be very happy with your purchase. Do these things - classes are free at Shooting Systems in St. Louis. Shop for this its worth as much as the gun!!. The instructor at shooting systems are top notch and good guys. CYA

paranoia (n) - mental disorder marked by irrational suspicion OK, so I have a few guns too, not as many as Cleaner. Now I know why he was at Bass Pro Sunday. I also have 4 cameras and and kick ass, state of the art, don't even try it, alarm system. Plus, even better than Moe's pit bull, I have the superior dog species, a Rott(didn't guess that one did ya) I don't carry on the street. I never get into a situation that I would need a gun. I know where to go, where not to go, and when not to go somewhere. My state, Missouri, had a chance to pass the conceiled gun law, it failed. Too many bible beater think that Jesus will come down and personally save them. I think stiffer penalties for violent acts, less chance to have a greasey lawer getting them off, and less chance of parole would do a better job. I think the police should worry about more violent offenders and crimes, and worry less about non-violent offences and bullshit your stereo can be heard from the sidewalk after 11 PM crimes. My .15 cents. I was feeling generous

WOOOWWWWAAA camera's you get ck lately. I have an alarm - had to, you see the writer I have to carry on that stuff - the knives are worse than thge guns. Gotta have a dog. Almost blew the cats head of the other night. Rolled over and wife was there so - who the hell is making the noise. Grabbed the pistol and went looking. Wife said I should have shoot him - 18lb pain in the ass!!! Send Theron over I could use alittle fun.

CLEANER - understand the price thing and when i talked to the owner last night he mentioned revolver. I might be getting something used. So that's why it will be cheaper. I can't put something on layaway i need something sooner. ROTTEN - give me a sec and then check yo mail.

Used is good - just get a name. That and don't buy a cops old gun. They shoot the livin hell out of them. They are pretty much done when they get rid of them. Hey what up that your in a rush? [This message has been edited by Cleaner (edited August 16, 2000).]

cleaner is right...get a smith and wesson 629 lew horton model .44 mag...it has the round butt grip, rosewood grip plates, and a 1.5inch barrel....when you touch it off, a 6ft flame shoots out...way wicked...actually i would recommend the .357 Colt snubby...feed it .38s at the range.... i would love to go into my gun collection sometime cleaner...my grandfather is a class III dealer and his son owns a machine shop.... all females should be armed (well almost all)

I love revolvers! Just point, pull the trigger and Bang! One more piece of advice- Get something in stainless steel or titanium- Easier to clean and resists rust. Cleaner is right on the .357-Practice w/.38 for days and use glaser safety slugs for carry. Taurus has some nice compact .357's Well made and inexpensive for what you get. S&W-very expensive. Ruger's are hefty, but very well made and also inexpensive. Hell, I'm going to the pawn shop right now and check out what available!!!!! ------------------

Hey Rotten one of my boys is in your neck of the woods. Ozark Gun and Knives I was buying fishing stuff at Bass - although I would like to shoot on thier indoor 100 yard tube!

Please take some self-protection style gun courses. I would hate to hear that you bought a gun only to have it taken from you and used against yourself.

update..... Keep in mind it had to be within a certain price range. It's not name, I know Cheaner you said it should be, but again a $$ thing. Feels comfortable and they shot it for me in "the hole" they had in the back of the shop. takes 9 X 18 bullets I'll be going to shot it myself Saturday...

for the money the mak is a good gun...i would have pointed you toward a kel-tec 9mm...its the lightest polymer 9 on the market...retails for about 225...the double action only trigger is pretty stiff though and hard for most females to touch off accurately... if you got the mak, shoot the hell out of it...learn to break it down, keep it clean, and find out what bullets its like (i recommend the cor-bon's in 9X18)

It's a good gun, been around a long time. You'll always be able to buy clip cheap and ammo will never be a problem. Its Russian design and it's basically a poor mans walther ppk on roids. It should do fine. I would have rather seen you get a revolver but shit go with it. 130 is not out of line at all. Now get to know it very well and have it ready. None of this put in the clip and do I have the safety on stuff. That will get you killed. ????? do you have kids ?????? Some realy nice gun safes I'll turn you on to cheap. ---- finger combo stuff. Thanks SBill and Cleaner. Got no kids. and why is it so important to keep clean? looked at revolvers and maybe in the future i'll get one of those. They were nice, but then again pricey. I DO plan on shootin the hell out of it. But then again i don't want to shoot too much right? They showed my these bullets, i forget the name they are designed to kill the way the explode inside the body. Do you know what i'm talking about?? I not gettin those they are expenseive too. I'm just protecting myself and if someone chooses to bum rush my place, i'll have a surprise for them. Do you guys got concealed weapon permits?
Pro Bodybuilder Posts: 455 |
they dont exactly explode in the body...they were probably JHP's (jacket hollow points)...when they hit, they flatten and increase the surface area of the bullet, causing more tissue trauma....gruesome business...yes, i have a CCP, and you should to...in my county in alabama, they only cost 5 dollars a year....keeping your gun clean and adequately lubricated will decrease malfunctions...it is also imperative to shoot the ammo you plan on carrying in it...defense ammo is much more expensive than lead reloads but you should shoot at least 100 rounds of it to make sure your gun functions on it...
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 673 |
Pistols operate on a moving slide - pull it back to chamber a round. If that gets dirty it doesn't function well. Last thing you need is a jam or malfunction. When you need it to work """your life might be in the balance""". This is a problem for pistols. It can be with revolvers but its almost never a concern. Ammo - is very important - some might not be strong enough to cycle the gun. Others might not group well. Some might not load from the clip well. There is alot more work to a pistol. Don't worry when your ready to jump up your gun guy will take it back in trade!! So just plan for the next one and get squared with this one. Great learning exprience - don't know if you needed now but shit thats life. Your welcome to drop me a line and if your close I'll take you shooting ( wife is always looking for a reason) or I have gun dealer friends all over the midwest - I could hook you up with someone. Cleaner, I whish i was not in the UK hand guns here are mostly banned that is every thing over .22 Shit eh. Ok The guns i would go for would be a beretta 92f 9mm or a Glock 17 9mm nice fast accurate guns with a good mag capacity. Get some hydra-shock rounds, if they still do them...! They will stop anything most of the time. I think you call them dum-dum's over there. Only prob with the two guns is that there not that small but i would want speed and accuracy rather than a snub nose revolver but its personal prefrence. you may find the 9mm a little harsh...! ------------------
Elite Bodybuilder Posts: 673 |
I'm not a fan of 92F or the Glocks but thats just me. I like 9's for a combat role (hi Cap) but for a personal protection aspect I feel they lack stopping power. I think that .40 or .45 auto fill the role better. I'm impressed with 10's on paper but as of yet to get one. As far as bullets this area has grow greatly in the last several years and even 9's have had major improvements.

i am with cleaner on this one...beretta is just too damn big for a 9mm...i HATE glock triggers....so mushy....my favorite personal guns: HK compact USP .45 sig 229 .40 cal kimber elite .45 cal kel-tec 9mm what do i carry the most? the kel-tec..its got tritium ashley express sights (Big O), and i have smoothed it out with my dremel...its never malfunctioned (FACT) and is so light you dont even know its there... wanna hear something crazy...my former boss inadvertantly took a beretta with him in his carry on to china and back....discovered it under the bottom panel when he got back...scary!
