I promised the wife a big rock for our 10th, but taxes came up and I had to postpone for a couple of years.

But on Saturday, We took the plunge and she picked out one that blew her away. 1Ct VSI1 and F clarity in the middle and 2 .50 cts on either side.

Here is my dilemma-I hate the setting w/a passion, but she naturally is excited and loves the ring. Every time she asks me how much I like it, I have to lie and say "Beautiful" and other stuff.

Should I just suck it up? Help, I'm poor for now!!!!

She wants a ring, eh? Hand her a scrubbrush and point her to the ring around the bathtub. J/K You'll probably be best off biting the bullet and getting her the one she wants.

Shit man it's for her - if she likes it that all that matters. Just tell her that. Be up front that you aren't crazy about the look but if she likes it the more power to her.

My std answer for everything almost - " If it will make you happy "

If it's "one that blew her away", then you might tell her your not as crazy about it. But, if that's what she wants, she'll be the one wearing it. Happy 10th!

My 10th is coming up in 9 months, I am saving $$ as we speak. My wife had it picked out with her wedding ring. Not that she is expecting it (yeah right).

Anyhow, to your problem. She Loves it, setting and all, so find something you do like about it and compliment that. Also come up with the occasional, 'look at that sparkle' or 'god, that ring looks great on you' this will stop her from asking what you think about it.

Happy - belated 10th, what is it now 12/13 ?

Thinks you guys should know about the art of Diamond hoarding. Learn how to judge a diamond, learn the price range and then go to a pawn shop. There mark up is about 500%. If they got a 1kt sr1 in on pawn they most likely gave about a $150 loan on it. If the ring is not out of pawn after 3 months they put it out to sale at around $750 -$1000. They will take 250 cash for the in one second. They will allow you to have the ring checked by a jewler. Then have the diamond removed from the mount. Give the diamond your girl loose and you go together to a jewler to pick out a mount.

The same ring at zales would be in the case and marked $1800.00 and they will come down to about $900 for you. You save about $500.00 after having it mounted and everything.

Damn, when I was looking to get engaged I had a pretty good deal on the ring my X wanted and that was $12000. Damn where do you find a decent size for that price bro?!!

I was very fortunate in that my hubby was able to get me a nice engagement ring and a BEAUTIFUL diamond wedding band....we're not talking Donald Trump here, but it was and still is more than enough for me. When I wear them I still get complements.

For our 10th wedding anniversary we went to my second BB competition - no card, no present, we promised to make it up to each other (in a romantic sense), but spiritually...what better way to celebrate your tenth then at a bb comp?...after all, we did meet in a hole-in-the-wall gym!

Brotha CM - congratulations on 10+ years of wedded bliss!!!! I hope you share MANY, MANY more together! and about the ring, if it is the setting that SHE loves, you can be honest by saying that it would not have been YOUR first choice, but that any ring she puts on her finger would be a mere ornament that pales in comparison to her beauty.

Thanks for all the great advice. My solution:

I'm going to compliment her on the excellent taste she has in jewelry. Like most everyone said, she has to wear it, not me. Besides, it does look good on her.

Checkmate- We purchased it from a pawn shop in Reno, Nevada. Listen up EVERYONE!!!! He is 1000% right. No way could we have afforded a ring like that from Zales-Would have been listed at about 10-12K. I always buy my jewelry, firearms, cameras, etc. from pawn shops. Whats great about them also is that you get a unique one of a kind piece.
Her ring was made around 1930-45. Very Art Deco and could not be duplicated.

Save yourself some hard earned $ and haggle away at THE PAWN SHOP!!!!

It sounds as breath-taking as the lady who will be wearing it, I'm sure! (hint, hint)

Thanx for the advice! I, myself, prefer jewelry (like most of the things in my life) that is UNMISTAKEABLY one of a kind!
