To make a long story short, my girlfriend was cheating on my ass, and she was the last one I kissed. The lymph node glands in my neck are fucking huge, I have a temp., very weak, and the worst sore throat possible. To make it worse, it is a form of herpes virus, and no medication can be used. The only meds. I am using are viscuous lidocaine (for throat), and a shit load of vicodin pills. I was wondering if anyone else has had this shit, and what they did to get better? I feel pretty useless. I am taking a lot of antioxidants to strengthen the immune system, but I doubt they are doing much since the incubation time is between 30 to 40 days. Any of you microbiology guys out there have any advise? I can handle the fever feelings, its just this damn sore throat. Thanks guys and gals. IP: Logged |

I got mono back when I was in high school. I don't really remember having a sore throat for too long, but I was in bed for about 2 weeks. The thing that sucks for me is that it comes back sometimes, but not as bad as the first time. Sorry bro, I don't think there are any medications you can take to cure it. IP: Logged |

Are you sure it is mono? Did you go to the doctor? Strep throat can be deadly if not treated, and if you have not been to the doctor to be diagnosed with mono... GO!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sight1 is right. Go to the doctor. Untreated mono can turn into hepatitis which results in liver enlargement---in which case it may be susceptible to rupture, which is a life-threatening situation. Even still, with simple mono, the spleen is enlarged in most cases and is a risk for rupture. Strep throat is a risk, but in this case it doesn't sound like it. Even still, it can cause cardiac problems if left untreated. Go get some help immediately. They will probably give you a test called a "Monospot" test. That will likely confirm your mononucleosus. Since you've already been given lidocaine for the throat pain, I'm guessing that you already have been to the doctor for testing. In that case, take it easy and don't do anything strenous for awhile. Make sure your doctor tells you exactly what to do (and what not to do) so that you can much clearer about how this problem is treated. If you are having fevers that can't be controlled, your doctor needs to know this. Many people try to weather the fever, but this is risky since the brain doesn't tolerate fever for an extended period of time. Your doctor will probably give you a script for something like Prednisone and an anti-inflammatory to bring down the swelling and fever. Basically, go back and make sure the doc takes the time to sit down with you and let you know exactly what you need to do. Keep him updated about any changes as well. Just to clear some things up here, I had a strep test done about 2 1/2 weeks ago when I noticed that my lymph nodes were sticking out of my neck. The results cames back negative. At the time, I did not have a sore throat, I only had a low-grade fever (100.8) and achiness. Since the tests came back negative, I was gonna have a biopsy done to confirm whether or not they were something serious. Well, I never made it to my appointment because I started getting a sore throat (really bad) about a week and a half after the strep tests. I went to ER last Sunday and the hospital took blood for Mono tests, and they came back positive. So I know that I have mono for sure. I just do not understand why my throat hurts so fucking bad. Also, I am definately careful about not rupturing my spleen. I can feel some pain on the left side of my upper abdomen if I am not careful. Basically, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this shit, and what they did for comfort. I can handle the fevers and achiness, but this damn sore throat is killing me. FRACKAL--I plan on taking care of business with the EX when I get baack to CA, I had to fly out here to Idaho to take care of some other business. I had the symptoms you have, the swollen spleen (mine was so bad I couldn't even get out of bed), and the sore throat. Unforunately nothing more than aspirin and choroseptic was the only thing the doctor would give me, and it sucked. IP: Logged |
