My dad has it on both sides. Got one operated on about three weeks ago, and gets the other one done next week. The operation isn't that bad. He was in and out of the hospital in a few hours.

I've got a mild case. To combat it before it got too bad I bought wrist braces to wear while sleeping and typing anything lengthy, little pads for my keyboard and mouse pad, and I take bromelain (a mild anti-inflammatory agent, among other things, that is supposed to help in the wrist area). I still feel it now and again, but I've really improved and, with these precautions, its no longer an issue.

I've got it bad from typing alot, but I can't refrain from typing...that's part of my career. Right now, I'm going to physical therapy for it, which helps a little, but not enough to get rid of it. I know a few people who have had the operation, were good for a few months/years, but to only have the CTS return. This is because the operation leaves behind damaged scar tissue...it is not completely successful for everybody.

Oak: Your mom better take care of her wrists & work ergonomics(wrist braces, wrist pads, a good desk & chair, stretching, frequent breaks, etc.) before it gets worse.

Dude: My condition was mild in Jan.2000, but has gotten worse since then.
Where can I find bromelain & what else have you done/taken? For $3000, I changed my whole work environment and despite the ergonomic comfort, the problem still exists. The thing that gets me is that one day I'll feel fine & the next I'm in pain.

MrM: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a popular condition(among people who type alot) which is caused by inflammation of the nerves that give strength & feeling to your wrists & hands. This causes weak grip strength, numbness & pain in the hands & wrists.

Search for it on internet supplement shops or look at GNC. Sounds like you have a pretty bad case and the bromelain probably won't do much to alleviate your symptoms.
