okay, so i never played ball in highschool...when you deadlift with the straight bar, whats the point of having your left hand palm-forward and your right hand palm-inward....is this still dogma?.. ------------------ IP: Logged |

When I used to do them, I always used a palms facing in grip with both hands. Many people use the grip with one overhand and one under hand, but for me, it just felt awkward. Whatever works best for you. I concentrate on stifflegged deadlifts now, as regular deadlifts tended to make me injury prone. IP: Logged |

I find that I don't get a good grip unless I do the over/under thing. When I'm not going very heavy though, I use straps, because I can keep the set going for longer and get more time under tension when grip isn't a limiting factor. For low reps though, I like the over/under style with no straps. Stiff-legs, I always do with straps since I get a better feel in the hams and glutes from moderate reps and I don't want to turn the exercise into a grip test. IP: Logged |

The over/under grip is primarily used for bar control. It prevents the bar from rolling or twisting out of your hands on heavy poundages. IP: Logged |

Try it for yourself. Prepare the bar with 80% of your max and attempt a few reps with over/over. Pretty hard huh? Now try over/under. It's all about control ------------------ IP: Logged |

it is a much better grip. spent my first five years of lifting in a power gym, we sent five guys and a couple ladies to world powerlift finals. everyone in there used the over/under. IP: Logged |

I get a better hold. I don't believe in straps so I find what works. I just alternate which hand points forward/rearward every set to compensate for "uneven" work. ------------------ IP: Logged |
