Envy? Discipline? RESPECT??? What?!?!?! Yes, he does look "AWESOME," but not in a good way. An exploding nuclear warhead has "awesome" power, but you wouldn't like to feel it. A train wreck is an "awesome" sight, but you wouldn't want to be involved in one. Ronnie Coleman has an "awesome" physique, but he looks absolutely disgusting. His head is smaller than his arm, his gyno is... ugh... just look at the picture, and the chances of this man seeing 50 are worse than your chances of finding breathable air in deep space. Dedicated? Discipline that some of us couldn't dream of? Who has more discipline, a man who uses more gear than the rest of the bodybuilding population combined, or a man who uses SANE amounts of gear or is completely natural? As a natural bodybuilder who watches the scale go up in fractions of a pound as opposed to multiple pounds per week, I, and all others like me, have more dedication and discipline than Mr. Coleman. Respect? Respect is what you give a soldier who died in war defending his country. Respect is what you give a police officer being killed in the line of duty. Respect is not what you give a guy who takes gear as if it were water who is adding fuel to the sport of bodybuilding's high-speed trip to NOWHERE. Yes, I know that some of the pros of the past used gear; however, they had admirable, desireable physiques. I would love to wake up one day looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, or Steve Reeves, but God help me if I ever woke up looking like Ronnie, Flex, or any other steroid monster you can name. -Warik note: No, I'm not against gear. No, I do not compete. True, I have no idea what it takes to be a professional bodybuilder and to be in the condition that Ronnie Coleman is in. "All things being equal" basically means "if you were Ronnie" (because all things are hypothetically EQUAL, aren't they?). So, could I accomplish what Ronnie has if everything were equal? No, I could not, because I don't want to do that to myself; however, if all things were equal and I DID want to accomplish that, then why could I not accomplish that? All things are hypothetically equal, are they not? In regards to respect, the respect that different people have for different things is, well, different. I, personally, do not believe that someone deserves respect (or, as you said, "RESPECT") for becoming the epitome of steroid use and, as a result, being considered one of the "best." And, in my opinion, he does not deserve any respect for contributing to bodybuilding's de-evolution. The pros are supposed to be people that the amateurs look up to and want to emulate. I would love to look like some of the older pros some day, but I would hate to look like the pros of today. I'm sure many people agree and disagree with me, but I'm sure that most people would not like start trading a few extra pounds of weight for a few less years of life. I have to say that I agree for the most part with Warik. Sure Ronny and all of the rest of today's pro's look awesomely huge, but I really have more respect for the people on this forum who have regular jobs and family responsibilities yet still make the time to get in their workouts.
