Got up this morning and checked my 55 gallon tank to feed my fish...well my Oscar was missing. I moved all the decorations to make sure he wasn't hiding (hard for an 8 inch fish to hide) and he wasn't there. Time for the flashlight. looked under all the stuff in my room, found him under my dresser about 5 feet from the tank. Sucks, I raised him from the size of quarter and trained him to eat from my fingers. Still not as bad as losing a dog, but i'll have to give a R.I.P. to my oscar or something, cause i'm going to have to bury him. no way he'd fit down the toilet and if I put him in the trash he's gonna stink up the whole block.

Sorry about that bro. I once had an aquarium, too. When my fish died, I fed them to my cat.

I had the same thing happen to me with an oscar. I considered cooking it, just to see what it would taste like.

Sucks - i have a very large red frozen in my freezer. Just can part with her. She grew old I guess - couldn't save her and nothing was wrong in the tank. Great party thing having them take the gold fish from your hand. Loved it!

I feel your pain - peace.

Oscars are great fun. And yes they can "fly". Even if you have a lid, you will need to make it heavy. When you train them to eat from your hand, or jump out to snag a pellet or gold fish, they will often think there is food and jump at anything. Even a reflection of a light at night - or a moth that may have passed by.

I've had just about every fish there is at one time or anohter. You may want to look in to getting a Silver Arrowana. They are very cool and can really fly up and out. And talk about live gold fish feed action!

get some piranhas.

i'm in the process of getting a tank setup myself.

a 55 gallon tank is the perfect size for 3-4 red bellies...

Well I got him buried. It's cool that some of you keep fish also. Oh well...i guess i'll move my other "project fish" from my 20 gallon to the 55...anyone know anything about a cichlid called a Managuense or Jaguar Cichlid? This things supposed to get something like ~3 feet. any info would be appreciated, cause i've had him for 4 months and he is still about 3 inches long.
