I was just wondering. I may give competing a shot once when my scheduele frees up just for the experience and to say I did it. But I was wondering why others do it on a regular basis. Is it in the hopes of turning pro? Getting 'discovered'? Recognition? Or for other reasons? I know for myself getting into competition shape just isn't for me. As long as I maintain a single digit bf % I'm pretty happy.

You put your mind & body into a total different environment during the # weeks you prepare for competition.

You deal w/ people's comments (good & bad) and keep telling yourself, "I will keep going."

It's rewarding to me to get up on a stage and forgive me for saying this, but bb & fitness girls will understand this, you just feel so good about yourself that you want others to see what you've accomplished!

Also, when the crowd gets into your music & routine that you're busting your ass on........it's such a RUSH!

Afterwards, esp. when you win, you can treat yourself!!!!!! The compliments make you feel just so good about what you've accomplished!!!

Who wouldn't want to turn Pro, but that's a lot more costly, too.

Show: Some people, like myself, don't really have time to compete on a regular basis. I only do 2 shows a year because I have a full-time job and also go to school at night. It is tough dieting and hitting the gym everyday on those basis. I know some guys that competing IS their job, just like the top pros in this sport. I am just gonna do 3 shows next year and that's it for me. I am moving to Texas late next year to become a Drill Sgt. for the Air Force, so I know I won't have time to compete after that. It is a passion of mine, but also have to have food on my table. Fitnes1 is right about the "rush" from being on stage (especially when all the women in the audience start screaming and shit)! That just makes it all the better.

Show, if you are thinking about competing, go for it and best of luck. From your pictures, you definitely have potential. The mental preparation is 90% of it. It is a good idea to do only a couple of shows per year, because putting your body through that kind of stress constantly is probably not a good idea.

Show: BTW, I usually tell my family & closest friends when I'm even thinking of doing a show. That way, they respect my decision & don't give me grief about it.

FlexB - drill Sgt.? How cool!

Also w/ respect to what Thick Dog said about "that kind of stress constantly is probably not a good idea,".....yes, and it's also not healthy.

For myself iv'e been an athlete all my life. I com pete at everything i do. Whether it's a game of chess or backgammon with my girlfriend i hate to lose. It just became the natural thing to do aftewr i was done with football and baseball. And when i experienced winning my first show i was hooked. It's all about you when your on stage . Your the one that dieted for 8 weeks without cheating, your the one that does an hour of cardio everyday, your the one that trains heart and soul for two hours a day.You get the point it's all about blood, sweat, and tears. But man when your arm is raised as the first place winner, well there is no greater feeling.
