Theres a sweetass sporty being sold where I live at the Harley dealer, but Ive never rode a bike and I sure as hell dont want to dump a harley learning. What can I buy used for under a grand that I can learn on before going to the harley?

I have a '96 Softail Custom (FXSTC)and I am working on a '72 FL. Harley doesn't make the Softail Custom anymore... They were replaced by the new Softail with the twin cam motor.
I had an old Sportster ('74) a long time ago. It caught on fire when I went to start it right at a gas pump (holy shit). That was the end of that ride. Smaller bikes are easier to learn on, but you will just want to get rid of them pretty quickly. They are just TOO small after a while.
Get a good used bike out of the paper and ride it for a couple of months to see if you even like it - Riding in traffic can be a sobering experience with all the assholes on the road!
Good Luck and let me know what happens!

ohkay here I go,here I go again,

President Clinton said he wanted to ride a Harley out of D,C. the last day of office.

Then he was advised it wasn't a good idea, because he was reminded the last time he rode a hog around Washington.

bump that on the city traffic. or nothing like a windblast from an 18wheeler at 100mph.

I gotta crotchrocket but want a Harley also (I figure a couple years or so)
