I can't wait for the damn season to start. With all these footbal topics popping up lately, I got to thinking. Who do you guys think the best team was?

My top 3 are:

85 Bears
78 Steelers
72 Dolphins

It came down to the 85 Bears followed closely by the 78 Steelers. Both teams had dominating defenses and a great RB.

hey, I was out last night and got to see 3 of the Steelers in Greensburg, PA they are training in LAtrobe right now, no big thing around here anymore though. No one has any faith in that team now a days...

This past year did it for me. Always go with the under dog.
The team that did what no one would have thought! I would have love to made a bet in Vegas at pre season that they would win it all - what a pay out.
THE RAMS

It was nice to watch Denver and Elway make good.

Ok, in my humble opion it has to be the 85 bears.

They had the best running back ever. EVER!

They sent 9 players to the pro-bowl.
And since they were one of the oldest NFL teams ever, the team records they broke tha year were quite measurable.

There defense was not only big, but they were quick and fast a combination of what the steelers used in the the 70s or witness what Jimmy Johnson did as he employed Ditkas stategy with his years at Dallas.

I didn't know Jim Brown was on the '85 Bears Team. I like the '90 49ers or '78 Steelers.

With all due respect for Walter Payton, I think the 3 best running backs in order are:
1. Jim Brown
2. Barry Sanders
3. Walter Payton

OJ was awesome, but his career numbers don't compare to the others. He did have a way of "Knifing" through defenses though.

I think Walter Payton was the best. He could have played a few years more than he did. That guy was an awesome all around athlete and he made the craziest runs work . Like he said he wasn't the stongest or the fastest but he was the smartest. He could dunk a bball at 5'10 in full football pads. He was undoubtedly the best at going over the top of tacklers and piles near the goaline. In all his years he never really had a decent offensive line either.

Barry is without question the best of the new crop.

I like Larry Csonka, he was awesome to watch on the NFL films highlight clips. Bulling over people and a stiff arm from hell.

Scott825 has it right. The Cowboys of the early '90's were absolutely dominating. The 'Boys have won 8 NFC titles, and 5 Superbowls. If there's a Superbowl, there's a roughly one in four chance that the Cowboys will be in it, and a better than even chance that, in it, they'll win it. No other team comes close!

BTW, I live in Jersey, and can say unequivocably that the Giants and Jets SUCK THE BIG ONE.

'78 Steelers? Try the '76 team. They lost to Oakland in the AFC title game when they lost both Franco and Rocky to injury. The defense dominated like no other that year, including the '85 Bears.

Hello? Anyone hear of the Lombardi era Green Bay Packers? Five (5) championships in the 1960s....I think the entire team is in the Hall of Fame. That was total domination.
