well i had a bow-down weekend...cruised university of alabama and bar-crawled with my brother in his new M-class...pumping nelly "ride wit me"...yeah, it was nice...(im broke)...but he's getting on the freaky side of mass and cut...he's about to graduate with a business degree and his friends have him convinced his size will be a detriment to his occupational future....they figure he's gonna be stereotyped as a meathead...and that his physique puts guys off in a sort-off passive-aggressive envy....im serious, he turns heads for sure, but anybody else have more experience with the problem....at first i kinda laughed and said "good job", but later realized there may be some validity here...any info appreciated...

and whoever (havoc or moe)who said they want an M-class...go get one...they build em in tuscaloosa and sell them at the plant at a big discount...

When I graduated I was around 230, 5% , jacked the fuck up and yes it did hurt me in getting a job, you are stereotyped and many were completely intimidated, now I am even more jacked up but I got my job on lock down. M class, what is that? a car? Just bought a 2000 323CI BMW with the sports and premium package attached, its simply beautiful. But yeah your friend will get stereotyped , it sucks and is insulting, I have wanted to bitch slap many people at interviews but I held my aggresssion and it paid off. Tell your friend not to give up, success will come.

well i want the S500. those are some bad ass cars. Then i look at it and think 80k in a trade account for a year and i could have a nice ferrari and a condo to go with it. Shit I cant even force myself to pull any money out of trading to fix the front of my mustang and that is only $2500.

I like those new BMWs too. They look alot better now then the last body style they came out with.

Well, i didn't have to worry about the getting a job part(I took over my dad's business after college). But I do get treated differently on a day to day basis dealing with clients and everyday people. Sometimes with the utmost respect because of my size and sometimes disrespected because of it. Yes people get intimidated immediately. I really think it is all about how you carry yourself though...if you walk around with a smile on your face and are very outgoing and friendly those intimidated people will soon realize,"hey he's not really a monster after all." And if he has very good speaking skills and techniques of persuasion that will get rid of the meathead stereotype. I know this from experience.

Oh yeah, it's not what you know its who you know!

damn, that's not encouraging...maybe ill tell him to tone it down a bit, land a job, then blow the hell back up....what a raw deal...he's no brainiac, but he's not dumb...i guess it is how you carry yourself...we tend to be a bit on the aggressive side, you know fuck or kill

M-class is that new mercedes SUV...i went to a private college so dad didn't buy me the toys...

HUMMER 2000 = $80K if you want to spend an ass load of money at leased spend it wisely. The landcruiser is broke down more that it is running and the lx470 is ok, but try having a blow out at 70mph in one of those pieces of shit.

I gotta a '99 landcruiser and whoever told you it breaksdown more than it runs is shitting you. These vehicles never die and are amazingly easy to maintain with supperior onand off-road handling. I come from the middle-east where we have a lot of sand dunes and rocky mountaind and landcruiser is the vehicle of choice closely followed by land rover discovery and a car you don't have out here in america called nissan patrol (looks like a suburban but is good off-road) Hummer is not good for narrow rocky mountain terrain but fairs well on sand dunes due to low center of gravity.

yo B,

I can tell you this much.....If you are in shape, it will help you in the professional world. What I mean is that from being in good shape, it has helped many of my friends, and myself as salesmen. If you are dealing with woman...you have half the battle won. But...if you are too big, then it can hurt you for two reasons...
one is that you will be too intimidating for most "average" people,
and secondly, just like some of the others had mentioned...it will put you in the meathead category. not that i agree, since i am an avid lifter...but that's just the way it is.

tell your bro that depending on how tall he is, if he sits around 200, and not much more....he should be MORE than fine. trust me!

peace,
G

My opinion? - it won't make that much difference. Confidence, warmth and a BIG friendly smile overcome most 1st impression barriers.

No matter who you are I find the 60/20/20 rule to be in effect. 20% love you immediately, 20% hate you, and to 60% you are just another person. If you are big 20% will love you. If you are super skinny 20% will love you etc.

I keep a file of stories of people overcoming obstacles. One of them is about a man who had the biggest portage company in colonial American (13 colonies). This was of course during the times of black slavery. The man was black. A portage company was the 1700 version of a moving company. This man who had everything that could be stacked against him virtually had one of the most successful business in the 13 colonies. he hired many white people.

No matter how carefully you could craft your look (within reason) nor how bad physical attributes may be lacking (like having black skin in an area that thinks of you as less then human because of the skin) - sincere speech, dedicated service along with confidence, warmth and a BIG friendly smile can overcome most presentation obstacles.

Good reasoning NJ, If you have those files digital would you send some to me? I agree wholeheatedly with the warm/positive 1st impression, they might see you as a big teddy bear.

If you are quiet and reserved I would bet my last rediject that people are going to think of you as a freak/monster rather than just shy (granted you are pretty big) Its a stereotype.

It probably would hrut him if he looks "too big" and like the guys above said, imtimidates people. No matter what, you will always get stereotyped and it will affect your chances on certain things. Just gotta keep battling threw them.

Sweet cruiser Bill, I would take it over any of those fuckin dog hummers that are to wide to even fit down a trail. Anything built after 1985 is not a real truck in my book. Anyway, yeah being big intimidates people and will be to your detriment. Choose Law Enforcement, you will fit right in with all the SWAT guys!

dont you guys remember Big Tom Callahan, "Callahan Auto Parts", that guy was great, and so was his son, they were real big guys, and they had people skills, not little Tom so much, people skills waved bye bye to him long ago, but if you are sincere and come off as a person that the customer is confortable with, youll be fine
