I was in the same boat a few years back bro. I was going to college and preparing for law school. I was a 3.7 student and could've gotten in to a lot of good schools but it just didn't seem right. I was spotted in the gym by a high school football coach and got to talking. Two years later I'm close to getting my teaching degree instead and I've coached the O and D line the last two years and love it. I'll never make much money but I love every minute of coaching and looking forward to teaching. My advice to you is if your career doesn't feel right it probably isn't. Most people are like this so if you find something you can do that you love hold on to it. Good luck. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well....I'm in The Air Force. I have a cushy office job so it works well with me eating all my meals at certain times and I get a standard 1 hour lunch. When I first came in, I was in aircraft maintenance and it sucked!! I would say I am happy and content with my job now. There are certain things I don't like about the military (see the "Someone Got Offended" thread), but if you have a good supervisor like I do, it makes it all worthwhile. Sometimes, it doesn't even feel like I am in the Air Force with the environment I work in. As a matter of fact, I am only 1 of 2 miltary among 20 civilian employees. I also have plenty of time to go to school. I am only 6 classes away from my Bachelors in Criminal Justice. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I knew I wanted to work in TV for a long time and studied video in college. I work on an Atlanta based sports talk show (which I'll soon be quiting for better things). I got this job because the show's host who also had a radio show at the time was talking with his co-host on the radio about how he was short handed on his TV show. I sent him my resume and a month later he hired me. And I do love my work. Even the bad days are fun. Well usually. Romeo, one of my degrees is in Sports Mgmt. and that is exactly what I do, I am a director of a corporate fitness center in Houston, its cool, any job whether you like it or not gets redundant at times. I dont believe that an IDEAL job actually exists because you are going to have good and bad days regardless. Hang in there bro, sounds like your working hard , lifting and working 2 jobs is no fucking joke, it is highly respectable, shit I probably couldnt do it. Good Luck and the best is yet to come, this is just a learning experience for you, everything is. IP: Logged |

well i got started growing dope cause i finally got a bag of killer green with a few seeds in it. I walked 10 feet to work everyday with a stoned smile on my face the whole time. I started trading stocks because i started watching CNBC all day while i was growing. I started charting stocks on paper and then about 6 months later I opened my first trade account. Best job there is in my opinion. It is legal, you set your own hours, make a shit load of cash if you arent a dumbass about it. That is what i will do for a job once i am done growing(takes money to make money!) a job pays the bills and thats it. If you like your job it is a hobby that is profitable. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well what can I say? I got married before I finished college and the rest is history. My career is tough, the pay stinks, the hours are long, no vacations, holidays, or sick days - but hey a girl's gotta do somethin' with her free time?! Seriously, I often complain but I wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe I would've finished college before the kiddies but then again, I really wouldn't have needed the degree anyway - doesn't take a doctorate to know how to potty train - actually, I do have some friends who do have their four year and masters degrees and STILL can't figure out how to do it. ...but now I'm straying. Education is the key. Had I finished college who knows where I'd be. I did have dreams of becoming doctor or psychologist - HEY STOP LAUGHING - but the choices that I have made are my own, and for the most part I'm very happy - HEY, I TOLD YOU PEOPLE TO STOP LAUGHING! Will I go back and finish school someday? Maybe, if I ever figure out what I want to be when I grow up. But for now I'm happy being bikinimom - wifey and mother to my girls and having a good time doing part-time fitness/swimwear modeling - oh yea - and making it to the gym on occasion to rack my bod w/some serious pain! I started out going to college for Hotel/ Motel Management. I ent for 3 years and then decided that i wanted to get into the medical field by taking a course to get PA certified in Emergency Medical Tech. Well, that expired. I moved down to Fl and stared working for Lucent Technologies, and self taught on computer programs to make myself more valuable to the company. Since then I have moved back to PA and I am still in the telecommunications industry, working for a new phone company as the executive secretary for the President and VP's of the company. Now do I actually DO anything here, NOPE! I get paid to surf the web and take customer complaint calls. For they are NEVER here. But yes, for the moment I am happy with where I am in Life! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up. I work at a pretty good job, pay is decent, I'm good at it...but its not highly satisfying. I've been back and forth to college more times than I can count..I'm a perpetual student and love subjects like nutrition, human biology, etc... Hey Mr M - California Polytechnic Univ is a great school in a beautiful area...I hear some great people live there too! ------------------ IP: Logged |

well romeo i do a modified form of daytrading. They call it momentum trading. It is where you only trade a few stocks per day or even per week waiting for more than a few fraction of a point gain. It has been really fun so far and i average a 20% return per month on my initial investment. Some months are higher some lower, but it averages 20%. I hear you about the broker crap. Cold calls and shit. F that man. I looked into that too, but it just isnt me. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hey I can relate. I live close to NYC and finding a good job that you like can be trying. I just seperated from the Air Force because, unlike Flex B, if I had to spend any more time there I think I may have become permanently miserable. The reality is that you should honestly ask yourself what you really enjoy doing and figure out how you are going to make a lucrative living out of it. Too many people look for careers in which they make a lot of money and then spend the rest of their lives trying to make themselves happy with material things. IP: Logged |
