My back is getting so bad, it breaks down almost every other month now, to the point I can't get out of bed for a few days. Ice helps, I go see my chiropractor regularly, but still having major problems. Any advice? IP: Logged |

You may need to see a chiropractor who specializes in sports related injuries and management of athletes. I know that a lot of chiropractors say they treat athletes and their injuries, but my experience is that unless their clientele are specifically athletic injury patients, then they don't specialize. Judging by your username, it is safe to assume that you're from San Diego? Wherever you live, let me know and I'll put in a call and get you in touch with a specialist who can further evaluate your situation. IP: Logged |

well im not a doctor ..but i have had some back probs over the years ...and i have read in a few mags that when your back feels good you should work the shit out of it ....lift heavy weights to build it up...and ,make it stronger... also when i hurt my back make sure you dont sleep on your stomach ..it puts pressure on the lower back...and you might even want to try to sleep on the floor for a few days it might help peace romeo IP: Logged |

Mike, if you feel motivated enough to take a drive up to Santa Monica, you can try Dr. Ben Weitz. He is a chiropractor and he understands BBs and their injuries. He is an ex-competitive BB and personal trainer. You may have seen some of his articles in the mags from time to time. His clientele consists of many of the top pros and amateurs. He is very well known in the BB community. He also wrote a book called The Back Relief Book, so this is probably the type of chiropractor you need. ------------------ IP: Logged |

goleaf probably means Robaxin. It's a muscle relaxant (like valium), only not as psychoactive. I've got a back, sandie, that's probably worse than yours. Rarely bothers me anymore since I started squatting. Romeo has the right idea there. Also, build up your abs. The support they'll give you will relieve your back. Each to his own, but chiros never did shit for me. Good luck. Squats and abs, bro! Bjaarki ------------------ BECOME SOMEONE'S HERO! IP: Logged |

I suggest laying off the weights for awhile and start swimming laps at the pool. It works. IP: Logged |

I have the same problem! I have 7 or 8 herniated disks, pushed a hip 2in forward and tore all the goodies in both knees..I gave the docs a little over a year to fix me and they are sucking wind so I said fuck it, and here I am month 2 at the gym and now reading my ass off on this board. Try doing very low weights when you are going to work your back and did you ever try those magnet blankets for your back? My mother got one for me and I thought it was bullshit but I don't hurt much at all now. Good Luck, Hack IP: Logged |

It may not nessecarily your back that is the problem but it is suffereing because of a muscular imbalance, weak core muscles, tight muscles of the legs etc...... Go see a physiotherapist, you may have some of your vertabre out of alignment or maybe not,I'm no doc. Also go see a Active Technique Release Practitoinar(sp) IP: Logged |

try to do a lot more stretching. you may have flexability problems and your back gets hurt in some excercises. Maybe you are having bad form in certain excercises but go see a doc. check your form and stretch though thats important. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Deadlifts brought my back back from the dead. I also use a chiropractor that is sports-specific. Deep tissue massage helps too. If you can find a good ART (Active Release Technique) practicioner, I would highly suggest that. Unfortunatetely for me, I don't live close enough to one to make it a regular thing, but I tried a couple sessions in Colorado Springs in early July and they made a good improvement. You might also consider an osteopathic manipulater. As a doctor, they practice not only the chiropractic side, but the medicine as well. IP: Logged |

thank you for all the input so far. here is a little more history on the injury. i used to powerlift from age 16 to 20 (i am now 30), which is when i had my first injury. hurt it doing deadlifts. basically couldn't lift for over a year, until i found my current chiropractor. i have seen many, and he is the BEST by far. really a great guy and in it to help people. doesn't mean there isn't anyone better, but he is damn good. well for the next seven/eight years, whenever i had pain i would see him a couple times and would feel great. i kept squatting, but did quit deadlifting since the first injury. then squatting would irritate my back alot. got to the point i had to quit about a year ago, and haven't been able to start up again. i was hoping a lay off from squatting would be temporary, but so far not. i always do my abs, so i am not skipping there. the most recent trouble is a series of strains in a row that i thought i recovered from, only to go skating around the beach (i do skate regularly) and the next day have alot of pain. funny thing is, it hurt the first week, the second it became worse. now its three, didn't make to work a single day last week, and wouldn't go tomorrow if that were possible. it has only been worse with time. i do appreciate the comments already posted, i will try contacting the doctors referred, but again any other input would be appreciated! Stretch, Stretch, Stretch!! I had a major back problem from deadlifting too much, it never got well untill I forced myself to stretch. it wasnt my back that I was stretching it was my hamstrings. My flexibility sucked and tight hammys were killing my back. if it is lower back hurting, 9 times out of 10 (atleast for me) it is due to tight hamstrings. IP: Logged |

BigT - I have read about ART and I was very interested in it. I'm assuming you went to CO to see Leahy, he's the guy who created it if I recall. I was thinking of making that trip, too. He has trained a bunch of people to do his technique and they have a certificate that says his name on it or something. I read about it a while ago and may not recall all the specifics, but I thought he had a guy in San Diego doing it. If you were willing to provide more details about your injury and about your experience with ART, I am interested and others might be. Maybe a separate post on that topic? ------------------ IP: Logged |
