-K- Frackal usually doesn't have an active social life, his days consist of waking up, going to the gym and back, either going to work, or chillin' at home on the internet. Today however, I went out with this girl I met, to a movie, then to a park at night***. And nothing else matters. Anyone else bitten by this bug?

no you didn't and I also have given up on just about everything to lift weights. I know though but my reason for working out is to get huge so I can intimidate and be able to show off in front of weaker people. Also to show up those hot heads who go to th school gym and bench 1 rep at 135 and call it a day. I will go in there and hit nothing. I'll just say can you squat that much weight which they couldn't. I could show up any moron my size and a lot of bigger people in a squat contest. keep lifting and forget the girls unless they want to go to the gym with you. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Man i have the same thing. if i do something that im not usually doing i keep thining what the time im spending could be used for. you've come to the point where you realize that lifting isnt a hobby anymore, its a lifestyle. and now you have to decide if you want to go all the way, or not. ------------------ "...damn you for not giving my TEST" - Metallica "After this show i'll be fat and happy again.....If i make it to the show...." - Lee Priest IP: Logged |

I know what you mean bro. You get into it so deep and it consumes all your focus. With school, lifting, and coaching it's hard for me to find time for many social activities but I don't really miss it that much. Just when the tide rises if you know what I mean. This is one of the best posts i've read. I thought I was the only one, feels good to know I'm not. Bodybuilding has changed my life and I can now say it is what truely makes me happy. I have sacrificed so much for my lifestyle but it is all worth it. It takes the strongest of people to do what we do, both physicaly and mentaly. We are a special breed. IP: Logged |

I'm glad others feel this way. For example, today was chest day, and nothing feels better to me then walking home from the gym, pumped as hell, having girls smile at me while they drive by, and punk ass kids stare. I love it. This is what makes me happy.

Frackal is definitely not alone. The quest for perfection is draining and empowering all at once. It takes and gives more than any of us probably imagined it would. Actually, this is how I came up with my sig. I am constantly: ------------------ IP: Logged |

It true you know...it IS a way of life. One that average people don't understand. There's nothing better than having all of your problems go away with one workout. Or looking forward to your next meal because what you are eating makes you feel good, makes your body grow and gives you energy. Your life can be falling to pieces and it all comes back together in the gym. I am obsessed yes, working on my body comes first these days. Its great, I love it, wouldn't have it any other way. Maybe I'm just a self centered person but still...I'm hooked. ------------------ IP: Logged |

yeah i'm the same way, i find myself turning down chances to hang out with friend and dates even. you know like going out to eat or go drinking or whatever. when i do go out to eat i always think, whats here going to give me the most protein and isn't so unhealthy. when i'm hanging out with my friends, i constantly think about if i've gotten enough protein for the day and if i can get back home in time for my next meal. good example, a couple weeks ago this cute girl asked me to go out for a drink. told her i couldn't cause it was leg day... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Frackal im as hardcore aBB as you will get. But when i am not training for a show i like to have a balance in my life be it music friends, or loved ones. Right now im getting ready for the biggest shows of my life so it's a 24-7 commitment. But i usually can't wait till the show's are over so i can have balance again. It's also important to cycle your training between hard core and moderation this way it keeps you from burning out. I think that's why i've lasted so lon in this game you have to take your breaks. i have to say, im in the same boat with all the bros on here too. did i eat enough, if i go there will i be able to eat anything good. if i go and stay up too late will i be able to sleep enough tomorrow? all questions that are running through my head. scary at times, but the payoff is worth it. it may be narcissistic or vain, or merely self improvement taken to the next level, but i love it. ive been in the game like this for 6 years, my social life has suffered but im doing what i want. isnt that all that matters? ------------------ IP: Logged |

My bodybuilding lifestyle IS my life. Sure the looks from chicks is great and my girlfriend I don't think is handling that too well. My priorities are now on BBing and is where a lot of my money goes. I don't really care about women because my girlfriend is a fitness lifesytlist herself so we both kind of prioritize the same stuff. It's great...never felt healthier or happier. I don't think I could ever SUCCESSFULLY date a women who was not seriously into fitness and looking good. I admit I am EXTREMELY vain and can't deny it. The looks she and I get just walking in the mall is ridiculous. Everything from hatred and sour grapes to total awe and admiration. She loves it but I hate being gawked at. Oh, my pictures have been taken and the roll is going to go get developed some time this week so Dlady, your dream is about to come true! :-) [This message has been edited by BigPappa (edited July 24, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Bodybuilding is a part of my life but if ain't my life. My life is full of varied interests. Funny I was just commenting on this in the Playstion thread. Life is meant to be lived. So live! Please by all means bodybuild, but do some other shit too. Go out with a girl, go rock climbing, play sports, whatever have fun and do some living for Pete's sake. If all you do is train, think about diet and think about training it doesn't sound like you have much of a life to me. But it does sound like you do have an obsessive complulsion. I not trying to flame but I am trying to be a voice of reason. I love bodybuilding, but I love doing a lot of ther things too. IP: Logged |

I agree with mystic_hormones, I got into this whole thing not because I wanted to attract girls, but because I was picked on and humiliated far too many times before, and I just wanted to be frikkin' big (muscular) so I'd be intimitating. I actually believed Bill Phillips and though it was possible to do it natural, and for an entire year I wanted to be as big as Anthony Ellis and Jeff Seidman. I never realized that in Anthony's after picture, his arms were only 13.8 inches, that means I was already "bigger" than him before I began (I started at about 14 inches about two years ago) Now I reallize that to achieve what I wanted(19" arms), I'd have to take gear far more seriously than I want to, so I just want a decent goal, to go from 16" arms to 17.5" Once I get there, I'll make new goals for myself. Bill Phillips stabbed me in the back, and now Biotest wants to do the same thing, but I made myself knowledgeable, so that these guys don't pull blinds on me anymore. The only bodybuilder I respect now is Arnold, IP: Logged |

Get on Usenet newsgroups...find Misc.Fitness.Weights There you can talk with Lyle McDonald...the guy who wrote abook on ketogenic dieting...anyways this guy and most of the others there are up to date on diet-related research. They've determined it doesn't matter how many times a day you eat, as long as you get your targeted calories all will work out the same. doesn't seem to matter how much protein you get at one sitting, just over the course of 24 hours. Makes a lot of sense if you think about it. the body was made to work for us, not against us. IP: Logged |

I guess there are times in life when too much of one thing can be bad. But, let's turn that around and say too much of one thing can be good, too! It just depends on what you want in life & what makes you happy! When I first started working out, a lot of people laughed & even made comments about how much time I went to the gym. After several years of seeing my progress ( & now having seen me compete ), I think they finally respect my decisions and dedication. This doesn't mean they like it, but I'm not doing it for them, I'm doing it for ME! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Anthony Ellis' arms were almost 14" in his famous "after" picture. He started ut at 12" and he gained roughly 30lbs in his 3 month bulking phase. Currently his arms are 15.5" at a bodyweight of 175. You have to remember that Anthony Ellis' frame is small, and 15.5" arms look big on his frame! and also the fact that he's ripped makes his arms look bigger(it's always like that, being ripped always makes you look bigger) I don't know Bill Phillips' size, but at about my size, 5'7, his arms look like they are around 17.5" (his bodyweight is about 200lbs at around 6% bodyfat) I'm only 185lbs right now at around 10% bodyfat, I look slightly bulky, but not ripped. I'm leaning down right now trying to get to 6% fat (it's tough) then I will try to reach 200lbs by the end of the year. If I can go beyond 210lbs, that'd be great, but I think my body would not want to stay at that. My buddy always jumps to 210lbs when on juice(he's about my height) but always drops to 195lbs after, but that's just the way things are... ------------------ IP: Logged |

Ok, according to the 1996 SSR, Bill Phillips is 5'8" and 202lbs at 7% bodyfat. Since it was 4 years ago, he probably is higher than 210lbs now, but I don't think he can change his height, so 5'8" it is. (Man, talk about feeling inferior! I'm even shorter than him, and he's a stump...) ------------------ IP: Logged |
