i am 20 years old last year i was so excited i got my first credit card ...and wow!!!! they gave me a $3000 limit.....do you know what a 19 year old kid with $3000 dollars at his finger tips does .....thats right people you guessed it ...the asshole spends it!!!!!

i have been fighting my way back from debt for the past few months and it sucks .....when i go out i have to limit myself to how much i spend .....i cant really buy anything new ....honestly that hasnt stopped me .......now that i have just spent over $400 on winny ...i really put myself back.......

does anyone know of any neat little tricks to help get a friend out of debt ...because my life FUCKING SUCKS right now !!!!!!!

sorry everyone for the high emotions

turn around and sell the winny for $800

actually your in college, your suppose to be in debt...

take me for example, my first years salary when i graduate will probably all go to repaying loans...

A couple of different things you can do...
First off, you can rip up that credit card and never use it again. Pay it off and then once you get more responsible with money you can get another one.
If you don't want to go to that extreme, keep the card but don't take it when you go out drinking or whatever. There's nothing worse than paying interest on alcohol. Keep it only for emergencies. Most people don't have that kind of willpower though.
Good luck!

sometimes credit card companies will give you a break if you can pay it all off at once, especially before the year is up...it makes their books look good...for example, i just payed 750 on a 1200 bill and cleared it...cool, huh...course most people don't have the lump sum laying around...thats why they're in plastic debt....try calling them and see what they can do...

I have the same problem when I'm not careful. What works for me is to leave the card home when I'm going out drinking or to dinner. I bring cash and spend only what I bring. It really helps. I also make a monthly payment on the card thats as big as I can afford. If you only make minimum payments you'll never get ahead.

Thats it bro. It sounds simple but it really works. The proof is that when I start carrying the card around my balance climbs back up. I now try to keep it only for gas or real emergencies.

So carry cash only and payback as much as you can. Good luck!

super i already went to that extreme the card has been ripped up..and will never again feel the comfort of my wallet

....and did you say all i have to do is call up and make a deal with them ...to pay a lump some ...ok right now i owe 2600...so lets say i get 18 hundred up do you think they will cut me some slack

peace romeo

I dont know about that lump sum stuff, but they will work with you a little I have never heard of them reducing the amount you owe them unless they classify you as uncollectable/bad debt then they would take $5 from you but by then your credit is fucked.

romeo-

call them and say, "what would you take in a single payment to clear my debt"..can't hurt...if nada, try again early early december...good luck...

on a darker note, there have been a rash of suicides involving young college kids who were in bad credit card debt...the last one i heard about shot herself on her bed with her statements surrounding her...crazy

No shit, this happened.

I applied for a 1 million $ credit line. The bank asked for everything but my firstborn (I think they were going to ask for him next)
So I said to hell with it prime plus 2%.

Went to a smaller bank and applied for a 3 million$ line-guess what? I was wined and dined like a Hollywood high roller. Just provided last 2 years 1040's and Financials for 1999- Approved in 2 days. Prime plus 1 1/5 and no loan fees!

Before everyone starts sending me their bills to pay- A credit line is revolving and must be paid back within 1 year. If I took out the 3 mil for 1 year @ 9% simple interest-thats about 300k+ in interest expense alone.Sorry I don't make that kind of $.

All the attention was kind of nice though
