This question has probably been asked before but how much can you all bench press with free weights? Lets see who's the strongest.

I hate that question with a passion. But to answer it not much. The question that defines overall strength is how much can you squat. I ain't flamin here, but when someone asks me that question I can't help ask that one back.

Is that strict form or ass way off the bench and a good bounce off the chest max? With or without a shirt?

mightydog, have u ever heard of a strap down?? u take a huge ass belt, the one for the fatties, u take it and put it around the bench and around your hips, i do that when i max, i have a arch in my back tho. no shirt, no bounce, i tried to bounce once, hurt like hell, i bruised a fuckin rib. the only thing i get is a lift off

I have never seen/ heard of that before. When I max I try to keep my butt on the bench but I'm sure it must come up maybe 1/2 inch for a few seconds, if that makes any difference. I always take the bar off myself so i guess that increases the static hold and may slighty reduce my overall max but since i lift my ass a little I just call it even: Age:35 weight:210 hight:6' bench:305x6 squat:405x6 deadlift 405x4. # of cycles:1, but many more ahead

Benching and squatting don't mean anything unless you do it in a competition with a judge verifying the weight and TECHNIQUE. Deadlifting is a much better measure, either you can lift the thing or you can't. No way to 'cheat' it up.

And I have NO idea what I bench. I've never attempted a 1 rep max.

ETHERTEK, IF YOU AND I WERE TO MEET AND YOU ASKED ME THAT QUESTION I WOULD IMMEDIATLY DISTRACT YOU WITH "SO HEY, HOW MUCH IS YOUR STIFF LEG DEAD LIFT, WHILE YOU STRUGGLE TO ANSWER I WOULD STEALTHLY REACH FOR THE NEAREST "YORK" 45LB PLATE AND BASH YOU REPEATEDLY ABOUT THE HEAD AND UPPER TORSO LEAVING YOU A BLOODIED POOL OF VISCOUS UNRECOGNIZABLE GOO ON MY GYM FLOOR.
Now, forgive me for writting in caps like this, ala "steel beast", but this question immediatly induces my gag reflex.

I like MS' answer. You can either lift it or you can't. Better chance of cheating on the bench and squat.

225lbs flat, 185 incline not awesome but this is with a fucked up shoulder. Ice it at least 3 times a week. Hopefully 325 with the sauce by next summer.

<idiot>how much can you bench
<me>How much can you squat
<idiot's brain>well I can squat more than him because I'm bigger
<idiot> well it looks like you are a bit under me.
<my mind>dope, Lucily I am between sets he he he.
<me> well Why don't you do a set right now, I already have the weight up.
<idiot> ok....hhuuuaaaarrrrggghhh.... well I hit it last week, by the way which way is the nearest hospital.

duh how much can you bench? SHUT UP GUY

story also compatibly with front squats exept they drop all the weights and with deadlifts they get a beach ball sized hernia.

While squatting is a great measure of overall strength, everyone associates strength with the bench press. Benching is also a lot easier. While I lift weights mainly to look good just as much as the next person, one thing I have noticed about everyone one who says that they don't care how much they can lift has in common: They're weak!

I prefer the term "Ostrich Rider" myself.
The most impressive thing I have ever personally experienced was when I witnessed a guy that used train at my gym squat a 725lbs and have his ass touch his ankles--stop--then blast it up---also saw him overhead press 315 for 4 ----now that is power.

i don't really like to max out, i typically go light and rep 10lb plates. on the days i do go heavy i put on a 5 on top of the ten. whew... i'm breaking a sweat just thinking about it. MrMuscle, you can bench 100lbs, if i were only that strong i would stop lifting.
