A popular Canadian TV show (Royal Canadian Air Farce) went to a US univerisity and asked University students who studied politics, "What are your thoughts of Prime Minister Tim Horton's new Double Dip Proposal?"

Can any Americans answer this?

Yeah Tim Horton's suck. All the food I've ever had in Canada sucks. It's times like this I wish we would invade Canada. I do like the beer stores though. I see them all over Windsor. Cool name for.... well for a beer store.

Why would Americans be informed on a Canadian politian's views? And I'm not trying to sound like an egotistical American here. What were Canadian's views on Bill Clinton's approach to revamping student loan pay back mehtods?

Had to ruin huh?
When this TV show asked these students about the above, they actually thought hard about it. They actually thought Tim Horton was the prime minister!!!!

F/N SHOW: the point is, is that most Americans dont even know who our PM is.
If someone said to me what do I think of Archie Bunker's drug campaign...I would know he is not the presidant. The students at the university that studies politics didnt even know our PM!!!

Ya know as much as it saddens to me to say, many Americans are indeed pretty dumb or maybe just uninformed. Jay Leno does a bit every week about it. He goes out in the street and asks simple questions like who's the vice president or what the capital of the United States and a bunch of people get them wrong all the time. It's scary. The most recent 'scary' one for me. A 28 year old man who I work with did not know where the Atlantic Ocean was. That's frightening.

tim hortons is a donut shop named after an idolized hockey player. i dont understand why someone would say the food in canada sucks since its the exact same as what you guys get. its called FRANCHISE.
and another thing....next time you think about invading canada just take a quick glimpse into the history books and look up what happened last time that was tried.
just lookin out for the north.

I'm not that much into hockey, as I've never seen snow. (Dont' snow that much in South Texas). A friend from up north was talking about some game that you sort of "sweep" the ice with some broom or something to make this big thing follow you.. what is that? I think he said it was called "curling" but I"m not sure.

If I ever am up that way we'll have down a few Labatts and go curling then. I personally like Coronas and tequila shots myself, but tequila shots don't go with many beer sports.

SO WHAT IF SOME PEOPLE DONT KNOW WHO THE PM OF CANADA IS.ITS NOT BECAUSE OF STUPIDTY,ITS ACTUALLY OUT OF EFFICENCY.THE HUMAN MIND IS EFFECIENT AND TAKES IN AND PROCESSES MOREOVER WHAT IS PERTINENT TO THAT INDIVIDUAL.TO SOME THE PM OF CANADA MEANS NOTHING,SO WHY WOULD IT MATTER.IM POSITIVE I COULD COME UP WITH A BATTERY OF QUESTIONS DIRECTED TO MAKE FOOLS OUT OF THE CANADIANS.

No kidding, who gives a damn about Canadian politics. They're certainly not a country we should look to for political or idealogical leadership. For that, we must look inward! Wanna be socialists, fine, but don't bother us with that drivel.

Bad joke of how canada got it's name....

Fernando and Isabella are sitting down with Columbus discussing the New World over a crude map. A map maker also in the room listening to the discussion, taking notes...

They talk about all the gold and silver in Mexico, all the beaches in the carribean, and Isabella points to the area where Canada is and asks "what's there?" ... and Columbus responds in Spanish "Que??! Nada!"

And the map maker writes down "que-nada" for the name of the region.

For those who don't know spanish Que Nada means "WHAT!!?? Nothing!"

Being the patriot I am , that is onle of the simpler things they did to the americans.. actually, the show was 'this hour has 22 minutes' and they also went down to princeton and convinced the PROFESSOR OF POLI SCI OF 22 YEARS that there was a seal killing hunt going on in Toronto (Canada's new york) and we were signing a petition to stop it!! hahah

Also, they had all these poli sci or history students (the funny part is, yeah, you don't need to know anything about our politics, but THIS IS BASIC KNOWLEDGE, we are not in Europe, WE ARE RIGHT NEXT DOOR!!!) convinced that Canada just finished driving in the last spike for the trans-canada railroad (americans yelling into the camera - WAY TO GO CANADA! Congrats on the hammering in of the last spike! And we JUST got electricity in the Northern Territories!! hahahah

My friend also had some guys convinced we run off metric time here! Hours are divisible by 10! heheh..

Not meaning to poke that much fun at you guys, but, you really invite it sometimes..

steelheart...i agree that many americans should be more knowledgeable about basic world events but to make the point that you know more about the U.S. than most americans is a littel silly. Most people in the world know alot about the U.S. as it is the most powerful and influential country in the world. If you go to even the most remote and undeveloped countries the chances are many of their people have basic knowledge of the U.S., this is just a by-product of the U.S. being so dominant and well-known. With that said you are correct in implying that many Americans have an attitude that the rest of the world is not really "important", so why bother learning about it.

Steelheart, I understood that. And I get the point of your initial post. However, in getting a good jab in at some of our "finer" (and I use that term loosely) political minds to be, I had to jab back. Really, why would we really want to be able to differentiate. These students are studying politics that are relevant to the United States and the international community. Canada just sits up there and does whatever it does, staying out of the world's way unless it comes to fishing rights.

I AM CANADIAN and I voted for Tim Horton in the last election. I will vote for him again in the next.

Anyway, I'm hoping no one is taking this post too seriously. Ignorant people are abundant in every country - it's not a matter of nationality. Now good hockey players...that's another story.

Steelheart...I believe the original question was are Americans really that naive...the answer is YES!! I'm american and saddened by the lack of knowledge/interest in other countries, governments etc...even the lack of interest in our own!! I'm guilty of this too...I think A. Mister said it best...ignorant people are everywhere...not just here in the USA.

Not to try to ruin the post but I live in Atlanta, GA USA and I don't think I've heard of Horton's Bagels. Maybe I've seen them the in supermarket but I know those shops aren't here in this area. So I would have no idea who Tim Horton is.

Now I know he's not. This may piss some Canadians but Americans think about Canada very little if at all. I think more Americans know England's PM over Canada's. I know I do. Tony Blair, before him it was Marshall eventhough I don't most American even know that. Most Canadians know the who the president of the United States but is the so does the rest of the world so that's not really a fair comparison. Here's a question. How many Canadian's honestly know who the president of Mexico is? Afterall it's on the same continent and only 2 countries down.
